Mod of the Year awards and the US Airforce

im in contact with the moddb staff but discussions run slow
it is not clear if it is possible to get the airforce stuff removed (from the mod if being awarded and from the news and final presentation as its always connected with the awarded mods)
I still have no clear answer to it... but if its not possible for moddb to treat the airforce like an ordinary sponsor then further discussions about this topic get useless since SWAT has to pull out of the moddb
but as it looks now the moty and everything connected with it are "REPRESENTED BY THE US AIRFORCE" (written damn big with thousands of logos everywhere)

there is also a question of what the airforce is sponsoring...
if there will be an award for CF and it gets sponsored by the airforce then im confronted with the same problems

not alone that it is a matter of principle for SWAT... it became a matter of other modding teams which share the same oppinion
I got mails and pms at moddb asking me if i know other places like moddb

I dunno - I only see one USAF logo on the main page and zero on mods' pages (including CF).
Since USAF only applies to MOTY, i think that (and it looks like) their logo is stamped only on MOTY pages (like the MOTY2008 event page), but not on every page and every mod...

hm... what about the rules and contracts there... any clause about that a sponsor must be named with the mod presented there?

I am quite sure that such kind of rule is not legitimated - its your mod - its your choice who you allow to link or use your stuff everywhere.

But i think the USAF is looking more for this ego shooters... the best players would maybe have the possibility to get into one of the head positions in their forces^^ I doubt that they will use any Freelancer stuff - coz mainly i missed any development that allows us to cruise through several systems on the search for new technologies or to defend mother earth from extraterestial species

there is absolutly no information about that but based on the general presentation and the way it was done last year I can only imagine that the worst case conditions will come true

and yeah - best mod gets a free trip to Iraq ... the 2nd best to Quantanamo Bay

For what it is worth; OP, I admire and support your courage to hold on to your principles at any cost. After all, life can take away from any of us all that we have except our principles. For the religious it goes even further because our death will take all except our principles.

However, I do have a different view of the USAF. I am an USA citizen and support all branches of the USA military. The USA military does much much more to save lives and comfort people in times of distress than to cause harm.

It is right to examine the bad things but it is also right to examine and acknowlege at the good things the USA military has done. Examples: humanitarian relief for Aceh and the other tidalwave victims, humanitarian relief for Pakistan earthquake victims, humanitarian relief for Bangladesh cyclone victims, ect,ect,ect..... Most of the Humanitarian missions performed by the USA military receive absolutely no Press coverage. It is a very sad fact that reporting something about the humanitarian missions of the USA military does not win awards for the reporters and many countries receiving help dont allow it to be public.

On a personal note: My father was a child in Berlin during the airlift.

The USA bashing in this thread pisses me off. It shows the good wisdom of OP and the SWAT creators to not allow nationalism in SWAT.

Magnet would you prefer communism? Oh can you provide us with a wiki about USA military humanitarian missions? Oo what it doesnt exist???? Very odd, I know the above humanitarian missions did indeed occur.

i will not argue about the goods that are done
but how much good is needed to even with the bads?

I worry more about the methods being used than about the reasons and i worry about the reactions that came from the "pro airforce" faction. Many comments where very nationalism like... many full of insults against people with other oppinions. Many people which were against the airforce in this discussion have been able to explain their reasons very well... including the use of facts and correcting false statements.
The worst crap ive seen were statements like "the Nato did send us to the irak" and "the attacks were justified" which is just ridiculous.

Lets be honest... i dont like the USA at all due to the shit that was done in the past 60 years... but I also dont like my own country. Principles dont make a difference between national borders. To say that capitalism is better than communism is also wrong to say in my eyes. I lived in both worlds already and both have interesting ideas to offer and also bad interpretations. In the end I made a personal decision to live in world with no borders... and maybe someday I will see that world with my own eyes.

Until that point of time I will be critical to everything which conflicts with my decision and will run this place like it already would be the world i want to see in real.
After all we are all gamers and not representing our countries.

That being said and to avoid political discussions here I will lock this thread.
