being pretty useless at pvp i would appreciate some tips. i'm sure im not alone here. i find it difficult to remember the relevant keys. is it easy to remap them? in particular when launching missiles, torpedoes and cds.

yeah, it is rather easy to make a setup working for you. I'll post a little tutorial about weapons group very soon. About when to launch that stuff: i think if i really knew i'd be killed a lot less
Otherwise just talk to people in the game, if they have time and the necessary skills they probably will help you. A good moment is just after TDM or any other event, coz then you have people online but not much RP going yet. -
Using manual controls on everything except the missles (not CDs) would make you harder to hit if you're fast on pushing the buttons. And the point is to preditc where your enemy will go when you're launching otherwise you'd be wasting ammo. And try to be less concerned about hitting with guns. The missles take priority. Lose the torpedo it will be a bother for you from what I've seen. Ugh when you launch CDs try to make them to go around your opponent's CDs so they can have the chance to inflict damage when your opponent is launching his missles. Try to launch your missles (not CDs they don't matter at what kind of speed they're launched) at maximum speed but be careful if you're close to the enemy cause you can launch them but they'd have some delay and just fly after you made your pass. Be careful and keep your eye on what your enemy is throwing at you: CDs or missles/torpedos. Torpedos are easy to trick to get yourself outta lock with them. Also if you plan on holding your guns on the open fire try to shoot them where your opponents will launch their missles cause they can do the CDs job. And most importantly: Your opponent is the guy you have to concentrate, but the real enemy is you. You mess up one thing and bam you're space debris and the other guy walks with 100k of your cash.
This is what I use so everyone can take a peaque and understand my way of fighting. If someone thinks I shouldn't have post it please tell me to edit it.

thanks jack. now just to put it all into practice

Pheonix problem is that you need to be adaptive. I don't have just one strategy in my locker. It depends on the situation you're in. You've gotta use your brain before everything else. What I gave Sev and you (unfourtunately
[just joking]) is just a basic info.

The very Main topic imO is, find your own style. If you look around it´s much harder to beat a pilot who is using his own style than those who are adapting other styles.
I once started to remap my whole keyboard to fit it to my hands. Everytime i am changing one of the keys or making some new things i need one or two weeks to get it working for me - that might be because of my Age
I am also using a 7 key Mouse to have some easy to achieve additional keys for some stuff. I agree with Jack in some points but i would advice to fire all weapons manualy - if you have enough breath to try out and change your setup you will be successfull. On the other hand it´s even important to know how your ships and the weapons are working (where to place them for example).
Catch me ingame i´ll try to help.
Btw. most important is Training, Training, Training - and after it RP Fights is the best for getting experience.
-
While RP fights are the best for PvP training there's also the matter of your aim. You wouldn't last long if you can't outturn or turn at the same time with your enemy. And since Mouse Flight is the only viable option for the pilot to survive in a PvP combat it's good to learn how to aim your guns and to make sharp turns if your enemy is outta sight. But yes Daywalker is absolutely right: the best tactics don't come from copycating someone else's tactic cause they'd know them better then you do, it's more importantly to create your own style with effect. While you may be your greatest enemy you can be your greatest ally.
-
And keep in mind that your own style will most probably work on some ppl and won't do any good against others. For example I just can't beat Exodus, no matter how much tricks I pull out of the bag LOL.
-
Simba there's one or 2 tricks to beat Exodus. If you want them tell me in skype or send me a PM to tell you
Although you probably won't like them.
But the main point is not to have only one style. It's to be adaptive to adapt one style to the other and if necessary throw out the whole style and start from the basics and build it up from there for diffrent opponents. -
-
I won't like them? Geez I like everything that helps me kill
Just start writing the PM :] .
-
Ok we'll see if I can deliver it right.
-
I´m waiting.
Btw. Simba you are quite near
-
Err not making hull damage is near?
-
Hey, you gotta learn to live with small things, like i did. I open a bottle of champagne every time i manage to dent the shields of Kermit or Pic or Jack, or even you.
So far i'm not worried of having to join the AA anytime soon -
What's AA ? And you can dent shields
*Cough the hulls the problem cough ;)*

And yeah, i'm quite aware that the hull's the problem. That's why i said you gotta start (or end, in my case) small. -

I think that's call regress: moving forward but then moving backwards... (in terms of diffrent situations too numerous to point ot like science). Give it some time when 1.8 comes out you'll probably be happy.

I'll be happy when pvp becomes decent
yes *whine*
