  • guys Gonzo has some pc probs....pls help so i can tell him what to do...

well: when he turns on the pc windows dont start but instead its a black screen with a message:
    NTLDR missing
press CTRL ALT DEL to restart

after each restart the same shit happens...

    any ideas??

    Keep on rockin'...!!;)

  • NTLDR is the Windows Boot Loader for Windows before Vista.

If gonzo still has his Windows CD, tell him to go into Recovery Console and type in the following: fixmbr then when thats done type fixboot.

This will reconfigure the boot loader, should work after this.

    Blaster

  • And if that fails he will have to re install windows

  • there should b a reason for this happening to him, and the worst-case scenario would b a hard disk failure.

  • here he goes again, meddles.

don't listen to blaster, it can b a hd failure, ofc, just b sure to tell him to check what did cause it... and to hope it's not hardware related.

  • Yes it can be hard drive failiure if the Hdd happens to have a corrupt sector exactly where the NTLDR file is so this is possible.............. make sure u run Disk Doctor or somthing similar to confirm if there is Bad sectors or not

  • Well i tried what you told me but when i entered in console recovery it told me that it cant find HDD.
I think that is because my HDD is connected to SATAII port and it happened to me before that it wouldnt recognize it in setups and windows instalation.
I will try to reconnect HDD after job so we will se if recovery console works.
    Damn comps...

Tnx for help all, ill maybe need some more if all of this dont work.

    Good luck, Gonzo [thumb]

  • I had that problem too, a WD SATA II and I used The Ultimate Boot CD ( UBCD ) to access the SATA HDD, you can use that to extract the NTLDR from the windows CD to the SATA drive. It also has a disk checking utility that will show if the hdd has any bad sectors.

As it happens, my WD 300 gig drive was damaged about 1 gig into the hdd and has now been replaced.

  • there r a few workarounds for this problem...

the simplest one is switching ur harddisk controller to standard, or legacy mode, or whatever term they did use, in bios. after that u will b able to access ur disk from windows cd, and do the recovery. u should return bios to the previous state after recovery, and try to boot from disk drive.

if u can, since we speak the same language, maybe u could contact me directly, and i'll help u... if u have any means for that.

anyway, b sure to check ur disk when u manage to boot windows again... ur problem could b bigger than just booting issues.

  • Gonzo maybe you have a floppy-disk or something w/ drivers for your HDD? [I needed mine when i was installing XP]

  • drivers at floppy disk r not for hdd, but for the controller driving it... but anyway, that solution doesn't always work, especially in the case of intel's mobo chipsets, cause some driver versions r a bit buggy.

if u choose floppy disk variant of the solution, u don't have to do anything in bios.

  • goodone, hvala ti, probat æu te nekak kontaktirati.

I have AM2 based chipset so it shouldnt be intel based chipset prob and i dont have a floppy on my comp.

I will try to figure something out by reconnecting HDD and after boot switching back to SATAII port.

Btw, where can i get that Ultimate Boot CD?

As you all can see im not a comp wizard so tnx for the help m8s.

it doesn't matter if it's intel or not, u just need drivers, or switching ur controller to legacy mode... ubcd may not help anyway, but u may also need some help with using it's tools too.

Argos: yes, it's the same issue like u had.

  • What about trying to make a windows installation cd with NLite?
    You can integrate every driver.
This was the only way for me to install windows on my SATA raid system.
