A question about graphic settings

  • I'm not entirely sure if this is the right forum, but I have the feeling this is somehow Crossfire related.

I have all graphic settings maxed out, but nonetheless for example asteroid fields start to appear very late. Just seconds before I would fly into them. That is a bit immersion breaking.
I have the feeling that this wasn't the case in vanilla. So my question is:
Did I something wrong or is this normal?
Is there an ini tweak to make such objects appear earlier?

    Thanks in advance! Dome

  • The best way to find out was to just reinstall FL, check out if it did the same, and then report your findings to us.

  • Hm other possibilities would be:

    - bad connection to the server - check your ping rates
    - bad hardware requirements - graphic card...
    - maybe the installation
    - running some background programs - like online ram tweaking programs, music streams or smth. like that.

Well i am not totally sure about the ini tweak but i assume it is not possible - but that is only an assumption^^

  • I can't see how ping and connection has anything to do with this huor ^^

Some objects in Freelancer have a "visit" setting in the ini's, this may have an effect on it. Op may have adjusted the "visit" in some asteroids or they are the same as Vanilla Freelancer and you just glasses 8)

  • Ok, thanks!

I don't think the comp specs are a problem here. And as I said in the OP, I'm not really sure if that is a CF prob. It could well be that it was the same in vanilla (I don't really remember and I don't want to play vanilla anymore after having played CF!).

I just thought there may be an ini tweak, so the objects pop up earlier. I'm sure my comp would tackle it.

  • im not sure if there is a difference in asteroid fields but if i remember right i didnt even touch those
only solar objects such as suns, gates, planets, tradelanes, jumpholes and other visual effects are visible over a much larger distance

ive been playing with the idea to add an option to CF1.8 where players can choose the visibility of objects based on their hardware resources... but im not sure yet if its really worth it

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

  • just my 2 cents: maybe it is because in vanilla fl your cruise speed is 300 whereas in crossfire it is 450.

    (btw: 300 what? k/minute? meter/sec? lightyears/microsec???)

  • clicks/klicks per second (dont ask me how to definy "clicks")

  • i remember this happening to me a while ago; i didn't really care that much about it since it didn't exactly hamper game play in anyway. As long as i knew where the object in question was i didn't really care much.

  • then the problem's fixed ^^
