Hello everyone, I got a problem with Vista.. hooo hooo, who wonders
Thing is, I cant get on any server. Thanx to this mod, I see the Crossfire server on the list, even if the global server is down.
But, I cant connect to it.
It says everytime "Connection couldnt be established, maybe server offline bla bla bla."
I googled a bit, and found out, that I need to uninstall my antivirus(Kaspersky) to get it working. Many people say on many forums, antivius like avast, norton or kasp dont let FL work(only on Vista), even if you deactivate it before starting to play.
Of course, playing Freelancer is a great thing to do, but hell its not worth it to leave your computer without any safety...
So, if anyone of you has a solution that doesnt include removing my Kasp, please HELP me.
Vista: Safety VS Freelancer

There are a few people here very experienced with computer hardware that will likely be able to help you. Hopefully you'll have an answer within a few hours.
In my case I just remind myself every day how glad I am I never upgraded from XP.
-
try another security software. i heard that AVG does work...
-
I prefer Zone Alarm, and FL will work with or without ZA active, though I prefer to shut it down, for maximum CPU performance
-
Yea I thought about that too, but I paid for the licence of the Kaspersky I have, doesnt feel good to throw it away now...
I will do that, if I cant find any other solution. -
OOps dblposted
damn!

U have kaspersky? OK i have it too and it's not the problem.
ok: to fix look at my "Got Online!" thread. i've written the instructions there.
No need to uninstall anything. -
I find it a little weird that an antivirus software doesnt allow u to access a server, actually thats none of its concern. Do you use Kaspersky Internet Security or the Antivirus version?
Norton and avast are known to cause many problems, no matter if u use vista or not (Kaspersky has less known problems and a way better scanning algorithm, still huge impact on cpu/ram usage.)
If u want a good (the best for home security, imho) Antivirus get NOD32 by Eset. Almost no false alarms (the biggest problem of all the others) and it's known for its stability, security and cpu/ram friendly scan algorithms. If u are using the Internet security of Kaspersky u might want to keep the safety of a firewall.
I'd recommend Comodo Personal Firewall (completely free with life time updates) or Agnitum Outpost Firewall (not free, but better, imho).
They also provide very good protection, while being compatible to most other applications, and for me the most important, no noticable impact on ram/cpu.
Check this for a little guideline:
http://www.firewallleaktester.com/termination.php
not the most recent test, but a good overview concerning the security.U should consider trying one of these, after your license expires^^.
best regards

Yep, if my licence is over, I can consider to get any other too, but the problem is not the Kaspersky itself, its the damn Vista.
Thats what I found googling: Microsoft has added something to Vista, so it "communicates and cooperates" better with your own internet security. Thats why with Norton and Kasp, your FL connection is blocked even if you DEACTIVATE them. Only uninstalling helps... thats all I knowthanx for the link magnet, I will take a look...

Nope, didnt work... I tried everything, offline mode before and after update, playing with offline mode, playing with online mode, still the same crap...
-
if u r using kav personal u might try the following (it might work, but i can't say it will 100% work on ur comp, since it is only a speculative suggestion, i didn't tried it out):
1. get to kav settings,
2. real-time protection settings,
3. troubleshooting,
4. try enabling/disabling one or all of:
4a. disable protection against network attacks,
4b. use stealth mode, and
4c. do not enable protection against network attacks at the system startup.also, use magnet's solution while at this one.
or, at the end, follow many ppl advice: switch to xp, m8.

Damn I cant even find that "Realtime Protection" thing... I live in Germany, so my Kasp is in german, and I cant see any realtime protection... maybe in German its called somehow else... Im really dumb in such things
And I cant swich to XP, this is a notebook PC LG900. They dont have any drivers for XP, like many modern notebooks... so installing XP is impossible.
and about your link Blaster, I have seen it already, but as I said, changing to another antivir software should be my last option, coz I paid for this one... sadly they didnt say that FL wont work [3]

A lot of guys dont know that when you run CF for the first time and you have windows firewall activeated ,the fire wall will block it, so what you have to do is minimize CF to the task bar.
then you will see a caption saying do you want windows firewall to allow this program, just say yes and away you go.
Norton Antivirus is a huge program and tends to take over your computer, I have used this but got rid of it ,its just too messy.
One of the best and its free is Avast Antivirus . -
[SIZE=1]please no cheap advertisements of IMO crappy free antiviruses, ok?[/SIZE]
AND... many firewalls [or antiviruses w/ firewalls] [ask to or by default] disable the windows firewall. Well, at least Kaspersky does.
Drunken. Do you have Kaspersky AntiVirus or Kaspersky Internet Security (big difference). And is it v6 or v7?
If it's KIS, try this. Open KIS. On left slide click FIREWALL. Then on the right side click STOP [not PAUSE]. Then launch CF launcher, let it update. Open Internet Explorer -> Press ALT -> File -> Work offline [wait a second or 2] -> Close IE -> "Launch CrossFire Multiplayer"

you call free ones crappy? I've been using AVG for years now, it has always done the job well. I need not spend a penny

I have Kaspersky Internet security 7.
Tried this stop thing, didnt workstill same crap
Everything works well, exept of the connecting to the server -
hmm weird. maybe ur ISP sucks even more than mine^^
do other multiplayer games work? do other servers work[ed]? -
My ISP is fine, I play Battlefield 2142 with a ping of 20, on german servers :), thats almost the best ping you can have in that game
The only problem is Freelancer. I cant get on any server, no matter mod or vanilla. I just cant connect. I guess removing Kaspersky is the only solution, exept of giving up FL... -
