I have a major problem

    Please help me.


    I am not sure if it is a hardware or a software issue.


    I connect to the net using a USB connection.


    I tried using ethernet but it did not work 8o


    The CF Launcher does not load properly for me. It mostly gives me E1 or E4 error.


    My browsing speed on forums has hit rock bottom and many times it just does not move forward anymore.


    I can talk to people on messangers.


    IE has stopped working and one site only worked after a lot of hassle. :(;(

    Try a restore or if you have a copy IE uninstal the one you use now, dont use the new Ver`of IE if you can get IE Ver 6 is better.

    I would start with the system tools, then work up to your ISP:


    1. Full system scan with anitvirus/Spybot/AdAware.
    2. Disk cleanup
    3. Defrag
    4. run device diagnostics
    5. Call ISP for line connect test
    6. Think about software re-install (browser, etc.)
    7. If you have recently updated your antivirus, like I have, you'll need to go back and edit the program control functions & security levels...

    Try to remember what was the last thing you did before it screws up. As far as i understand it was working before?

    if it was nothing of ur own doing, then it is most definitely a virus, spyware or similar infection.


    my 2nd guess would b increased network usage on ur isp and generally - since it's holiday and all.


    and my 3rd guess would b hardware trouble - mostly modem and equipment connecting u to web.

    Now I can get online but I crash out. ;( It says Lost Connection. Could this be caused due to heavy traffic ?


    I did Full Antivirus, Adware Scan. I do not surf porn. 8o:P:D


    I did not do defrag. Do I need to do it ? I stopped it as some of my games would stop working after Defrag. ;(


    Yes previously everything was fine.


    I also called my ISP and did a line test and my speed increased drastically after the call. :P:D


    I could and can download at good speeds via torrent and P2P programs only my Freelancer game crashes when I am in space. :(


    IE6 runs quiet slow. Should I reinstall it as I do not use it often ? The Launcher now updates all 8 files but I crash out if I am in space. [2]

    yeah, system restore might help (Control Panel -> System -> System restore on XP)

    if launcher works fine, u don't need to reinstall ie6; but it should not hurt if u did it anyway, since launcher uses ie6 as do many other win apps, so u need working ie6.

    if the game crashes u out to win, it sounds like a latency trouble. i wrote about it sometime earlier. try it, if u know what u r doing... i guessed u will need it sooner or later, since u use a system with win98 still, and there is a chance it is the affected one.


    if game doesn't crash to win, but just says it lost connection to server and u r getting those red connection icons during play, then i guess ur isp just got worse, and u should try playing cf in periods net activity should b lighter (like nights and mornings, at least for test). use ping command ingame too.

    My game does not crash out to windows but crashes out to Global Server List where it says Lost Connection if I try to reconnect.


    I have to come out and relaunch Freelancer.


    I will wait for a few days for holiday season to be over.


    I will try and update Ethernet drivers. The guys from my ISP had done that so I am quiet in the dark here. :P

    I was able to suddenly move for sometime before I was hit by red lag again. :(


    I do not know but this seems like an ISP problem.


    I have a P2P program which warns me about Lost Connection and sometimes I hear it say "Lost Connection" but when I come and see the connection is ok.


    I think the connection is sometimes blipping. :(


    Anyone know what could be the problem ?

    if ur still using USB - then it will only transfer at USB rate. USB 2.0 will be better, but Ethernet will rule the way! Last time i used a USB Ethernet - it caused all sorts of problems.


    If you're using a desktop PC, get an Ethernet PCI card if necessary.


    If Laptop, get a PCMCIA Card with ethernet.

    It used to work before. I have always used USB from the time I bought online service. :P


    btw I just was checking some of my other games to free up disk space. There is an error removing program called Bug Doctor and normally there is an animation of a bug moving which you see larger when he passes from under the Magnifying Glass.


    I cannot see that animation and neither will NFS3 work too.


    I run Dxdiag application and it said everything is fine.


    Now can someone understand and guide me properly. :)



    I also turned the detail level of Freelancer to it's lowest but I will wait for some answers on my new observation. :rolleyes:

    if this isn't an isp problem (and it might not b, taking into account nfs3 stopped working too), then it is a guess i stated as third: hardware issue - possibly with a mobo chipset cooling, since u have irregular and not-so-detectable troubles on an old computer.


    when was the last time u opened ur computer and wiped it clean of dust? it seems u may need a general service, m8.


    i would love to help u personally, since all of my m8 use my technical support in cases like this one (i do it both for fun and work), but i don't even know where u r from, not to say coming there and helping u with it (but it would b cool, since u would get shinny new comp with winxp after i am done with it). :D


    anyway, i will try to help u this way, just plz describe ur troubles more until we get to solution.


    ps. r u sure ur system is free from viruse-alike-stuff?

    I have Norton Systemworks 2003 and some other software too which I run to check for Viruses and problems. I also have a program called Bug Doctor. I think the system is virus free though I could be wrong.


    OK. I said I could not see the bug but forgot to write that I can see a white square box instead where the bug used to be.

    I also reinstalled DirectX using the DirectXWebServer application.


    It however told me there was some error as newer files were replaced by old files. There were some 3 entries but I could not read them as I had already clicked Finish which restarts the system. :(;(


    Guys some help please.


    I have DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904).


    Is this the latest for Win 98 ? ?(

    coolers r ok then? btw, u probably need new silicon layer between processors and coolers, but that is something u probably can't do on ur own.

    ok... so, u have a graphics subsystem problem. open ur computer, remove all cards from their slots (and plz, be careful), wipe any dust and move them back again in the same way they were.


    plz, state ur configuration too. complete.


    now, what kind of reinstalation of win98 was that? complete, or just a repair? u should do complete reinstall (deleting all windows folders on system partition should b enough, but i suggest complete repartitioning always, just to b safe - depends upon ur data). and what about drivers? r u using newest ones, or something old?


    and yes, dx 9.0c is the latest for win98.

    Silicon Layer. I might have seen it but cannot identify it. :P


    I have the 256 MB RAM card only. I have a AGP slot but no card. Which other card do I have ? :P:D


    I just clicked setup from DOS and it installed Windows 98. It is an automatic process which takes some 25 minutes. I put the installation on and went for a bath. When I came back, there was a message that windows has repaired my registry and so please click Restart.


    I had to reinstall windows as someone told me to reinstall video driver. When I did that my computer would only start in Safe Mode and in Normal Mode the Monitor light would just beep like it does when the power is on but the CPU is off.


    I am using ProSavage DDR Video display adapter. When I click update driver it says I am using the latest one.


    btw in System tab, I can see 2 ProSavage DDR display adapters. Is that normal ?


    How do we speak in messanger ?


    Do you have Xfire and when are you on normally ? :) Please state in GMT. :rolleyes:
