restoring backups doesn't work - u have to completely uninstall FL, delete its directory and install a new FL. Oh, and remember to backup ur savegames.

haven't seen anything like this.
Try a complete FL Clean install and check PC for viruses and malware - it could be that doing this. I have no knowledge of "cinnamon bits" 
so its your best bet.
Sorry m8, but one of the troubles with CF as a mod is that it's complexity and extent of change is so great that removing the mod corrupts the even restored FL files. To install another mod, or to even install CF again after removing it, one must make a completely new install of FL first.
I do have a shortcut that works though.
To save time and trouble, go into your Microsoft Games directory and change the name of the "Freelancer" folder to "Freelancer1." To be safe do the same for the "Freelancer" folder in "My Games" directory. Now you can install a new copy of vanilla FL and activate the mod you want to use. From that point on whenever you want to play either CF or a different mod, simply swap the folder names. Whichever is called "Freelancer" at a given time will be the one that is run. Hope this helps.
