Quoteppl should play the game instead of cheating their way through the game
Who talks about cheating ????
To have a look at pics of the cool ships, the georgeuos backgrounds and sizzeling (new) stations, to get an idea of whats going on in the crossfire universe (only background of the quests, some infocards to be read i.e.)....That makes you only curious to explore and find these ships, systems and stations by yourself.
I don't say that you should do it like the Discovery wiki where you can actually find the coordinates of i.e. stations and jumpholes and alike.
It should just be something like "backside"-text of a book, where you get an idea HOW FANTASTIC it would be to get the whole story.
It's an experience I've made with my daughter ( 12 years old ). Might not be statistical, but as a "case report" ?
On looking for something for physics at school ( it was ORBIT her teacher had in mind ) the kids stumbled over Freespace and Discovery. Now, with a bit help by me lending them the original copies and a compassionate teacher, who allowed them to do so, they are running a freespace multiplay on their school-server.
And there are two lads now of her class, who started visiting the Disco-server.

i dont even want to be such a CF wiki being public.
Why not ?
Such a public wiki would be a good advertising - for ppl lookin' around for spacesims. There are younger ppl around, who don't know that there is still an ongoing development of the game, who render FL as a kind of historical stepstone of the ancients of gaming, who don't even know of its existence.
A wiki, linked also to more general sites about spacegames ( i.e. spacesim central ) could work like a teaser with looking on some screenies and some bits of info of the CF-Universe, making them curious to explore it and get the FULL story behind this teasing informations and feeling of dwelling there.

Since what I wanna say touches several other threads but doesn't really fit them, I just start a new one.
I am playing space sims for about 15 years now ( does anybody remember sinistar unleashed ? was my first ) . Always on single player mode. About 5 years ago, dissapointed by what was released these days, mainly quite simple and stupid shooter games without any depth, atmosphere and challenging game-play, I discovered MODDING. And the first game I modded by working a bit with .ini files or inserting new models was X2. But there wasn't to change in the way of game-play. Then I rediscovered, by surfing the net, Freespace 2 and the wast worlds that its modding community ( http://www.hard-light.net/ )opened up for me.
Since then I'm around with several games in a way described by Bullwinkle
QuoteAs one of those SP players, I can say that half of the fun of Single Player is in fiddling with our own mods ... often ON TOP OF A MAJOR MOD (such as Crossfire). Maybe not every SP player does that, but once a person begins to use mods, it is just a small step to creating them.
Mind you, I am not talking about people creating mods on the scale of Crossfire. I just mean a little fine tuning, such as increasing the difficulty to 2.0 so that those lame-ass Dom K'Vash gunships will be a bit of challenge
And for me personally one of the reasons CF is so outstanding from the rest of FL-mods, is its mostly elaborated story developing with its quests.
So, when OP announced for the upcomming CF1.9
Quote- linking the CF story quests with a real singleplayer extension
Quote- possible story specific sol update (planetary mission)
and
Quote- dynamic universe for singleplayer (without the need to receive updates from the server)
I nearly pissed in my pants and panicked.
First reason for me to open up this thread is to ask if You OP developed eventually some tool or program like FRED for Freespace, to make it feasable creating new sp-campaigns with their own stories without going manually through every bit of code and mission file. ( OK, to make own cut-scenes would be a story of its own. ). With something like that you would most likely attract a lot of attention which leads to the next.
Second reason is to give these
Quotequote by Bullwinkle
In other words, there are a significant number of SP players... maybe the MP folks are more vocal and know each other better, but there are a lot more silent single players out there.
a voice and perhaps an option to participate in the further development of CF.
Third reason, bit a combination of the above, is to change the development as stated by harvey032186
QuoteAside from a few scattered servers, there is a dwindling number of people playing this game.
. Look at http://www.hard-light.net/ and you will find a constant, even growing and highly productive community. Get these SP's to work for and with you !
And since jerks like these 4chan people seems more interested in making a lot of noise on the net than in creating something, CF or other FL-related SP-mods would be irrelevant for them.
