theirs a big time gap here 8o 2009Y2K? or can MarcBomber
go back in time? lol :D

yaee!:D nice to see someone avoid a simultaneous shutdown. a thing that nobody should go though. (nothing recoverable software/hardware) i was lucky to be paranoid and take my V card and sound card out. lol

hint: you can never be to paranoid about PC's LOL :D

you may have herd my PC was killed by a Trojan?

it was a reinstall of windows to fix the prob that it caused
but... i reinstalled a bit to much lol... but i now have one hell of a beast :D

i hope your PC runs smoothly:)

there is one prob i encounted (not a biggey:P ) after you unstall CF then you put a fresh install of freelancer with the extras wiped out, (leftover files etc...) that the FL CF icon comes back in a day or a week when CF is not present.

a mistory yet to be solved:P

i had the same prob once. if your not on a mission, you can add more money to level up if it doesn't fix it, then raise yourself by one level, some times there is a glitch where you wont level up in till you sell something big, (one that i encounted) or you can just start from scratch.

though this is classed as cheating ;)

    Here we go

since i got annoyed with the limitation on dial up i decided to push it to the button,

a list of stuff u need

    1> flash get download manager
    2> crappy dial up X(
    3>a working brain

    for Firefox users
    1>latest version of Firefox
    2>the flash got plugin
3>this technique is based on Firefox but may work with other browsers.

this technique is a sound simple but semi hard for people who haven't done it before
Its pretty much you start your download before you sleep and pause it in the morning sort of thing.
after you have installed flash get, flash got,etc you are now prepared to get 500+ files that work!!!
but do be prepared to wait 4 to 7 days! before the download can complete! and some lack of sleep!

    Now the get 500mb+ thing

Once you find a download click on it, once the (opening*****) opens, make sure the (flash got) is selected and out of the list next to it, (Flash get)

now click the (save file) button

(Flash get) should now be open with the (add new download) as well. remember the top part that says (URL) that's your friend.

Now for the time being, click (OK) and if the download doesn't start automatically, click the download and click the start button and it should start

    IMPORTANT
but with big files from serten sites (Mainly Moddb) every hour or two (usually two and a half) you have to reset the (URL) its when the timer says ??.??.?? when that shows, (pause the download) and go to the download mirror, click on it, the (opening*****) should come up again,

now click the (save file) button

    this should look familiar.
remember how i said that (URL) that's your friend.)
    well it is
(right click the URL and click copy) then click cancel to close that download,
in (Flash get) click on your download then (click prop)
a familiar screen should pop up,
(Now copy the fresh URL into the part that says URL)
    then click OK

then (click start) and it should continue for two and a half hours or so
repeat every two and a half hours if needed.

what a long night, man you must be sleepily LOL you still have 3 to 7 or maybe 10 nights to go LOL :P

    IMPORTANT
DON'T turn your PC off! or use some PC cleaner tool, this may corrupt your download!!!

Now its night time and you want to continue.
(get a fresh URL) and copy it in the prop/URL area then (click start) it should continue.

THAT'S IT and if the (hour rule) apply's to your download
continue above and get some COFFEY or an ALARM and some FOOD just in case you get hungry
    and you should be fine.

    some things you should know

1>you may turn into a zombie
2>you can get really hungry at 2am
3>it might not work ( it hasn't happened to me yet)
4>don't blame me for bad studys at school or work etc...
5>it can take a long time
6>this technique is a BETA it may have probs
    7>but it does work :D
8>don't forget to log in to sites like moddb cuz the
    download mirror wont work.

    have fun :D

    (UPDATED STUFF)

tested the shutdown PC after pausing download
you can now shutdown the PC after a puase
it seems (Flashget) saves it to the hard drive rather the the TEMP file
so... you can shut it down in the morning to prevent an overheat.

things i got with this technique

1>FARCRY the delta sector mod (346mb) 3 days
    2>Morrowind rule 12 (467mb) 5 days
    3>FARCRY FACAM (588mb) 5 days
    4>plus loads of (150mb+) patches

    and all corrupted FREE

but i dont recommend pausing a zip file some probs in the past, gonna test it on some mod soon.

    update:

Don't download 100mb+ZIP files with this technique.
it'll be corrupted 90% of the time and with a zip repair 80% i think

but 50mb zip files and EXE files up to 1 GB should work 90% of the time

remember that the closer the sever you download from
it'll be faster and less likely to be corrupted :D

moddb seems to be a great one for being corrupted free! but you do have to reset the (URL) alot.
but funny that, you pause alot and disconnect and shut down and so on. and it'll still work!? :P

    update:

iv perfected a download strategy for filefront

once you come to the (add new download) window click
up or the down key on the (number of active threads box)
in till it says 1 (default is 5 ) and in the (URL bar)
backspace this line ( \X6 ) its at the end of the URL.
    and now start your download.

the good thing about this one is you don't need to
refresh the (URL) from what i know, and you can sleep
more. but from what i heard, the downloads are not from
a trusted source, but..... i don't care, iv got tons of stuff
    from them

    update:

filefront uses download mirrors from other sites and
the hour rule may apply and keep an active virus scanner
on if need be, i think that's true ?(

    Great Update!:

When going to start or continue a download, in the
selected download property's set the threads to one
and then click the site prop button, now uncheck the
(unlimited) box and next to it set to one and click (Ok)
    and then (Ok) again.

    Now... Start downloading you!!!

this pretty much eliminates the one hour rule but it still
can happen. (haven't had that prob though)

    [969]

Man it would be funny if you could get a badge from moddb saying.......I VOTED!!!! LOL:P

just for people who think they cant download CF 1.8 cuz of the big size on dial up i may have a solution but its still in testing and may not work, but on my end, it seems to be corrupted free!!

but you might call it a BETA as its still in testing :)

be careful when installing your windows, the more you install the worse it can get.
i have know idea why this is.... but i can only assume that when formatting a hard drive multiple
times, it wears down the hard drive down a bit..... if you do this again, be careful of a multiple system shutdown. (every thing stops working )

    but may i ask.

when you installed freelancer, did you get an error message saying something that the CAB files didn't install?

    just gathering some info

and if people have had this prob in the past when a PC is on the edge. please tell me as im trying to figure out what can cause this.
and the CAB prob can occur on games that use the cabinet files when installing.
    trying to confirm my suspicions.

    thx ;)

Cool!!! i heard of some reports in the forum's that freelancer and vista didn't blend well together
and i thought it was bloody funny when i saw some doc on this vista XP battle on TV a few months
ago :D, i think it was on 20 20 (some news show in NZ) :D

do you know why Microsoft is pushing XP people to vista? LOL

hears a list of why people have it, and don't.

    >1. people are skeptic about changing. ( know blame there )
    >2. people Love XP.
    >3. it's starting to make a loss in profit for Microsoft. ( ha! ha! )
    >4.Vista is a performance hogger. ( 1GB RAM etc... )
    >5.Alot of software including freelancer is sort of incompatible.
    >6.Vista dosent come with DVD play back and some other fetchers.
    >7.XP has a really good compatible mod for old games.
    >8.Vista dose look good
    >9.There are Vista themes for XP ya know!:D
    >10.(Main reason) since people dont want to change, microsoft dosent like this so they took XP
of the market in hope to force people in to buying it so they can make a profit.
    (And amazingly, its working!)

That's the Vista VS XP battle [726]

from what i can guess. it's the hard drive.. or the bios is damaged.. i had the same probs to... i recommend you start to backup before it happens...something i didn't do when it happened to me...

CF 1.8? if you can get yours or another PC running, with your 256mb APG v card, i think it should run smoothly:D

I use a GForce 6200 128mb PCI card. man... i hope mine can run LOL at lest with a PCI i can put it in any PC LOL :D

    >if Advance System Care cant fix it, the prob might be hardware. just a guess

    >and have you checked if your mobo is compatible with the video card?

    >if you updated ram recently, it might be the wrong one, or incompatible, eg ( 644mhs. 866mhs DDR 1 DDR 2 and so ) even the right ram can mess it up? that triggered one of my old PC second to last death LOL my old PC had 4 lives

    >something else to consider, don't touch these! if you have switches on your mobo? have you touched these.

    >and i recommend you don't touch the hardware any more or reinstalling some system updates this might have made it worse

    learned by doing.

don't worry about bothering us. were here to help:D

but i do hope this info helps :(

[697] updating to the latest driver can fix most prob's :) the most simple way to check if you have the latest driver is to go to (Microsoft update) and if ATI gave the driver to microsoft it should be in the hardware updates (if you use XP):D and when you download advance system care v3, get your windows disc ready, then click the utilities button then click the system file checker button, put the windows disc in, and if its auto play runs, cancel that and follow the instruction's, it's a tool that's checks windows files and repairs them :D it might help;) and in the standard options like (maintan windows or diagnose system) if something goes wrong, just activate a restore point! :D it's a great tool!! and i know how it fell's to lose a PC, it happened to me a few months ago;) that's why im trying to help, and something you should consider, is to bakup your personal files just in case its the hard drive or the worst happens...

question. what type of video card ya running? and did you reinstall it recently? we might be able to fix the prob :D and if its a reg prob, get advance system care v3, it's free and works wonders :D and if you lived in NZ i would have gave ya a few parts:D stocked up in case mine broke again LOL

I cant believe it, i think iv found a way to download 1G+ files off the internet!!!!! i managed to
    download a 500mb file over a period of 4 night's and it worked!!! :D :D :D i wont say how till i test
it a bit more. hehe i might be able to get CF 1.8 after all!!!!! :D just an update on me wrestling my
dial up internet LOL ill tell ya how after i test it a bit more.
