I could not get this too work but I don't think I have the same problem.

The error message comes up after the launcher has updated and the Multiplayer button has become active.

I did try leaving the error message up and starting the launcher again. Gave it a good long time before doing anything. With the error message up I could not see any other windows so I OKed the message and fired up multiplayer again (the launcher was ready and updated).

I got the same error message.

I cannot find a error report. If you can give me any advice or suggestions to create or finding a log, then do so.

I have checked that my laptop is fully updates and still have the same problem.

The problem I have is that my laptop is giving me a fatal error and not launching the game so I don't get far enough to be able to switch it off.

Is there anything I can do or do I just have to face facts that my laptop is so old it should be used as a paper weight and not to run CF?

Thanks for that, PC is now looking a lot better.

Any idea how to deal with the laptop problem. It gives me a fatal error and does not even launch. So I cannot apply this solution as it does not get that far.

Laptop is quite old and running XP.

I was playing CF earlier today without a problem. I have just gone back in to play, so restarted the CF and found that the graphics had gone bad.

I am no expert on graphics but it would seem to me to be the lighting effects. Rather than being smooth they are there are distinct bands and the whole image seems a bit out of focus.

So I did the usual sorts of things, exited CF and rejoined and rebooted my PC but nothing changed. So I switched to my laptop and fired up the launcher (V1.6). Hit the launch CF multiplayer button and got a fatal error message saying that freelancer could not detect any 3D graphics card (and advice to reinstall drivers and game).

So I have suddenly developed problems with the graphics on two seperate machines which would seem a bit unlikely. So is any work under way or new up dates been applied to the CF server (or related systems/hardware/software) that might have caused this?

If not, any advice as to the way to solve my problems?

Well that's your problem, vacuuming. Stop doing that and all will be fine.

As people have said, HDs are pretty difficult to destroy completely. There are companies that offer recovery services for dead drives and they can be fairly reasonably priced (if it is not a RAID system).

Good luck with getting your data back.

I have been trying to help Crysis with this. Here is what I have found:

The error comes when he selects the CF server and tries to connect.

He has tried on a different computer. This was able to connect so it is a problem with the computer and not the Internet connection or related hardware.

I have got him to turn off firewalls and AV software, still no luck.

I have run out of ideas, so can anyone else help?

You are missing the point. Rank is part of the game mechanics. Yes you need to know it for setting appropriate fines/taxes. I am also aware that pirates can blow me out of space without warning

My point is that I do not think that it has any place in a RP situation. You are playing a role as a character in the CF universe. That character does not know he has a rank let alone what someone elses rank is.

btw- I think you will find that rank is based purely on the monitary value of the character, cash, ship, equipment and cargo. It has nothing to do with experience.

While trading I have had a pirate come to me for tax. During our conversation they told me that I should pay as I am rank x which means I have at least $y million.

I am wondering on what the communities feelings are on players in RP situations using abstract game terms.

Personally I think it sucks and is very poor RP.

    Hello and welcome.

If you see me online, feel free to say hello and I will do what I can to point you in the right direction, but that goes for most of the players you will find in the game.

My understanding of this rule is that if you pay tax to a freelancer pirate, then he is not allowed to tax you again for 2 hours. If you pay tax to a pirate in a clan, none of that clan may tax you again for 2 hours.

On the rare occasions I do pay tax, I always grab a sceenine of the chat window showing the transfer to the pirate. I make sure I have used the "/time" command just before so the screenie has the time the transfer was made in it. This way I can always prove who has taxed me and when.
