A middle ground would be to have location knowledge be separated by license. pirates know where pirates are cops know about other cops location etc. But I imagine that would be to complicated implement.

The only category I have a favourite in is aircraft.
My choice or air plane is the A-10 Thunderbolt II also know has Warthog.
This plane was designed as ground support. It is more or less a flying tank that can take allot of damage to ground targets. It's main weapon is the 30 mm GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling gun that is mounted in it's nose. It fire 3900 30mm armour piercing depleted uranium bullets a minute.

Also if you have time take a look at the ac-130 gun ship, a modified cargo plane with artillery sticking out of one side.
