First of all u need to install VMTools.
Then u need to add these this to your [your_vm] .VMX :

mks.enable3d = TRUE
svga.vramSize = 32108864 (=32mb)

I'd additionally add
vmmouse.present= FALSE
to have less issues leaving the window border with your mouse.

Where does "multiple applications" start for u?
I'm certainly not like u and deactivate my firewall and antivir just to play CF for example.
Did u ever try to talk with "certain people"?
For example straw and me always have at least 1 fluct but a ping of 40-50. He and his flatmate are using the internet together and when i join in its already 3 ppl on 1 conn. Ok, i could play somewhere else, but straw still would have his flatmate on the conn, so there wouldnt ever be a way of having a totally clean line only for the purpose of playing CF. Besides theres plenty of ppl having bad ping losses and fluct without running anything in background and thats just because of their connection between the ISP the CF server and u, the client. Try from Japan and u will have a nice ping of around 300-400 no matter how good your connection is.

1 last thing, how can for example browsing the swat board crash the server, i cant see a connection between the 2. Every application has its ports to use, theres no way of overlay problems.

In the few months i play here, i met 2 ppl that prefer to say "fu" stead of "gf", and many other words. Thats first of all YOU, LASERJET (imagine font size 100) (SPs and almost any player that did beat u in pvp can confirm that) and my beloved Gunny, with who the DR's had issues from the first day on we were tagged IOC and i think already before.

Anyways, back to topic:
First it was missiler noob, then just overall spammer noob, missiles that "NEVER" miss (my ammo said different), then it was unhittable ship with turnrate+100%, 99% gun accuracy, which can be summed up to 1 thing t: cheater.

Nofuture, Straw and me did about 1000pvp's and more in our first 4 months. You blamed us for being in Arena all day (while boycotting merc RP) and wonder why we got better in PvP (coincidence?^^) . Maybe u shouldn't run away from RP and hide your bounty chars in Custo ...
We trained very hard to be at the point we are now, and theres still plenty more to learn, maybe u think u dont need to learn anything anymore.
However, now u r the missile spammer noob (noob is meant literally , since spammers kill themselves mostly, from my experience), without positive results of course.

Personally i don't care what u think about me (u have proven yourself a lousy loser more than enough), but threads like that are going to make CF suffer a lot, and all just because your pride cant stand it.
Since this isnt the first time, us "newcomers" beating the "old schoolers" got blamed for cheating, i already had some talks with gunny. I did offer remote access to my computer (u can play the game from my homecomp and install any logware u want), a crc or hash check of my install folder or anything else needed to prove that ur accusations are just a prove of your own incompetence.
Oh u mentioned something about proofs.
Still i offer anything u got in mind, to check my folder (if u want after every pvp where i win), but i hope u know that u cant prove anything which doesnt exist...
Try pvp with KeoKuk or Kermit and let me know if they cheat too, they turn faster than i do mostly (this is no accusation, just a fact of their superior skills and knowledge of the game).

EDIT: @OP: Everyone of the named above had more than just training. Straw, Nof and me learned from anybody who offered us training and advise. No matter how often u won an event, theres always better ones, at least in 1 pvp of 10 there might be a chance to lose, isnt there?

Nope you are not alone, seems update server is down.

I find it a little weird that an antivirus software doesnt allow u to access a server, actually thats none of its concern. Do you use Kaspersky Internet Security or the Antivirus version?
Norton and avast are known to cause many problems, no matter if u use vista or not (Kaspersky has less known problems and a way better scanning algorithm, still huge impact on cpu/ram usage.)
If u want a good (the best for home security, imho) Antivirus get NOD32 by Eset. Almost no false alarms (the biggest problem of all the others) and it's known for its stability, security and cpu/ram friendly scan algorithms.

If u are using the Internet security of Kaspersky u might want to keep the safety of a firewall.
I'd recommend Comodo Personal Firewall (completely free with life time updates) or Agnitum Outpost Firewall (not free, but better, imho).
They also provide very good protection, while being compatible to most other applications, and for me the most important, no noticable impact on ram/cpu.

U should consider trying one of these, after your license expires^^.
