How do these 2 statements fit together?

They fit together because it seems like the slow natural progression in original game is replaced by a hunt for uber gear to just dear to join a fight. I have just done one random mission and I earned all the cash just by collection escape pods, but I have explored the whole available world for better gear/ships. I never had that feeling in the original game, it was more about the story and just enjoying the game. Now I have to escape fights and look for gear instead. Anyway this is just my experience of the mod, there is nothing wrong with the mod, but maybe it is not for me.

Yeah I understand, Im just not interested in multiplayer so I'm unsure if CR is a good choice. Still I find CR interesting but it have like a"grinding" feel to it. I just want to play the story. take some side missions, explore the world, shot the crap out of enemies and have a nice steady progression.

    Hi! xxx78

just wondering what ship are you in at the moment?

Also I dont think you should be missing part of the screen on widescreen format!

Have you ticked the box "Adjust to desktop resolution" in the Launcher Options - accessed by the gear icon at bottom right hand of the Launcher Window?

In normal widescreen I dont lose anything (16:9), but in ultra-wide 21:9, there is missing elements on top and below, its most noticeable in bars and shops. Not sure about when in space. Yeah I have that option enabled. When I set monitor to 16:9 there is no problems.

After playing this mod for around 6-7 hours here is my short list of pros and cons.

    Pros

    The universe look great.

A lot more variations in equipment, ships, weapons.

Widescreen 16:9 work great. Working ok with 21:9 ultra-wide, but is missing part of screen, but thats a trade-off I accept for now.

    Nice sound effects.

    Cons

NPC enemies is damage sponges, and can take a lot of damage, so much that it can be frustrating how long time it take to kill one enemy. It's on the border of not being fun.

Money: Player earn money insanely fast in this mod, after a few hours I had more than a million. For this I can buy almost all the best ships, weapons and equipment in liberty space.
Ship progression and to buy better ships, weapons, and equipment was what Freelancer was about, with this mod I feel like Im skipping through a lot of content in a short time.

Many more enemies attacking me all over the place, but Im not sure about this since it is a long time since I played Freelancer.

    Who is this mod for?

I think this mod is more for the "serious" player and not so much for "casual" players. The reason for this is that you need to spend some time learning to kill stuff.

Right now Im cruising around in god mode, got so annoyed by all the attacks and that it take forever to kill anything. So i'm just exploring looking for better ship and weapons. the stuff I start with dont do much.

Thanks for the link, Im trying to learn about CR but there is so much changes.

About money and rewards, it feel like cheating getting so much money in the start of the game. But I guess there is a reason for this, I really liked the slow start with no cash as in the original game.

Sorry, I have re-read your initial post and seem to have understood what you mean. Round objects become stretched when they are far from screen center (like the planet on the right in this screenshot). This is normal in games where the image is rendered using rectilinear projection (including Freelancer).

Stretching can be reduced by adjusting vertical and horizontal field of view according to your screen aspect ratio. In Freelancer, FOV settings can be modified by editing DATA/Cameras.ini, but I don't know how to do it with Crossfire (in my installation that file contains zero values, and FOV parameters are apparently stored somewhere else). Maybe OP can help you with this.

Thanks again for your reply. Yeah I also saw that those settings is changed in CR. Got a tip about that in another thread. maybe this have something to do with the files that downloaded every time I start the game, or maybe it is the result of HUD tweaks in CR. I think the only thing I can do is to play in 2560x1440 (16:9) instead of 3440x1440 (21:9). I think the widescreen functionality in this mod is made for 16:9.

Any reason to change start cash to 150.000,-, have prices for things in game also increased?

Also after first mission I suddenly have 170.000,-, have the mission rewards also increased?

    Hello xxx78,

have you tried to directly set the video resolution in Documents\My Games\Freelancer\PerfOptions.ini? (3rd line from the bottom)

Stretched cutscenes could be a scaling issue, if the game runs at a lower resolution and the graphics card / monitor are trying to fit the picture to your screen.

Yeah I tried that, did not have any effect at all. The cut-scenes is not really stretched, but a a centimeter or two is missing at the top.

    1. yes (they running the widescreenfix)

    2. no

    3. yes, because you get your first ship from juni (it always has been that way)

Ok thanks for your quick answers.

About 21:9 I tried the CFWidescreenfix but I see no change. Videos still cut the top away.

    Hi

I have a few questions I have not found an answer to yet.

    1. Does this mod work with 21:9 (340x1440)?

The reason Im asking is that In movie cut-scenes the top of the movies is missing, and all round objects is stretched so they become oval in the videos.

    2. Is it possible to change start cash? In the mod it is set to 150000, and this setting can normally be adjusted in mpnewcharacter.fl, but no matter what I try it always get replaced by 150000, even if I write protect it. I tried changing the same file both in mod manager folder and game folder, but it get overwritten. I think it gets overwritten by the 43 files Crossfire launcher download download each time I start a singleplayer game.

I sit possible with some workaround to fix this?

    3. My game crash if I buy a ship before taking first mission, is this normal?

    Thanks for any help.

    have fun :)

Ok I see. Im used to modify games like Skyrim and Fallout using hundreds of mods together, that add to different part of the game.

One thing Im still a little unsure about after reading up on Crossfire, does the new graphical improvement, new ships and wares, new stations and sectors, HUD elements and functionalities work in the original campaign, or is this only for the Crossfire story?

    Hi guys

I have not played Freelancer for more than 10 years and I decided to try out Crossfire mod.

After installing mod manager and Crossfire everything seem to work great except that some sounds is missing from videos. Especially where the station get blown up in the start video, and when I speak to the barkeeper at the start of the game. There is no dialog happening. But the first intro movie about being defeated and escaping, there all sounds seem ok.

The only thing I have found related to this is something about missing or wrong audio codex. In the readme for Freelancer it say:

Also from another post on this forum I found this:

    Quote

    1. now it's obvious u have audio codec issues, and it may b the stuff that's messes ids too, cause fl sound engine is a bit... crappy, and has much impact on the game, generally. u will have to uninstall everything again, and uninstall every single codec or codec pack u have installed (those that affect audio codecs), and then install some compatible codecs back, and fl again. fl requires fraunhofer mp3 audio codec (up to advanced 1.9.305), and is only compatible with it, others just screw it up. one version of it comes with win, and u can install it with redistributable from fl disk: redist/wmfadist.exe. if u don't have that file, it would b best to use some good codec pack (but that is some more work then; anyway i suggest k-lite mega codec pack), but u can download it from microsoft too (if u can find it); btw, there is a Audio Troubleshooting section in readme.rtf file on fl disk dealing with this too, so take a look (u don't really have to do everything it says, uninstall of codecs and another installation should fix it, but have a look anyway),

Is this the way to fix my audio problems, or is there better ways to fix this?
