    a soap opera

the acting is bad but you really cant stop watching ;)

Important is to remember that this was not a coup. It was a special military disagreement.

The way it concluded (for now) is strange.

Both sides appear weak now. Making a deal undermines Prigozhins intention and lets him look like a coward now. Putin on the other side lost the strong man image who does not negotiate. All of them look weak now. Going to be interesting "elections" next year.

Dunno what the deal really looks like... but Prigozhin should probably avoid drinking tea or large buildings with windows in future.

That the criminal case against Prigozhin was dropped clearly shows that laws are meaningless in Russia. Thumb up, thumb down, the emperor has spoken.

That something like that would happen was clear to me. I actually expected Kremlin to act right after Prigozhin said "no" to making a contract with the MOD but since that did not happen Kremlin lost the initiative and showed a severe weakness. The question now is if this will end in bloodshed or will people turn on Prigozhin to prevent exactly that.

You have to keep in mind that Prigozhin was the only "commander" that made any military progress for Russia in the past 9 months. The psychological effect of that and of such a conflict now should not be underestimated. There are evidences in history where troops switched sides or layed down weapons because of respect towards a commander. On the other side their is this Russian patriotism and blindly following orders.

I would not be able to predict what happens next.

For Ukraine this is a godsend. It is a major distraction from the war itself. Russia will have to deal with its internal conflict now (more than just a few rebellious groups raiding Belgorod). If Wagner has the 25.000 troops it claims to have and if they turn out to be loyal then Kremlin either faces to fight Wagner or if the mercs are not as loyal as expected Kremlin still has to deal with them because every single of them could be a future security risk. No matter what these troops are probably no longer considered to be combat assets anymore. Losing 25.000 soldiers in one or another way even if it is just for a few weeks or months has a big impact, not only on combat readiness on the frontline but also to the morale of the other troops.

I think the psychological effects are more severe than the infigthing itself. This war shows how vulnerable Russia is. It started already last year with the protests in Degestan... then this year when two rebellious groups attacked Belgorod region (without much restistence)... and now Wagner which is a significant force in Russias army.

The Russian Federation (its not a Federation) is a very fragile construct mostly kept together by force and fear.

    sounds wrong to me

facts are based on proofs... everything else are just an opinions

Everyone is free to have own opinions but not free to have own facts. And if people would stick more to the facts, most of the problems we face today would not even exist or eventually could be dealt with.

There is no flat earth fact. Nobody ever fell off the rim of the world and reported about it.

The SWAT Portal #lobby discord channel has been deleted by me.

As written today on the channel I see myself forced to pull the plug.

I have no issue when a channel like that is used to post fun stuff, memes or general discussions.

But the same rules that apply to the SWAT Portal also apply to these Discord channels.

The fact that from time to time political topics found their way there were not even that big of an issue. My tolerance stops when crude conspiracy theories are posted, wild claims and stuff that defies any logic.

I wasted my time trying to debunk some of that stuff today, explained political decisions based on actually facts (that anyone could fact check if there is such a desire) and even tried to counter false claims about economy (which truly is an area where I have deep knowledge in)... just to be completely dismissed and faced by the next conspiracy theories and false narrative claims appearing in a 2mins interval.

I absolutely wasted my time there trying to bring the discussion back on a professional level... away from opinions back to a level where facts matter.

My tries to responsibly providing information based on facts (facts that can be looked up at anytime) and guide that conversation into a more professional direction were instantly dismissed and replaced by the next wild claims that have nothing to do with reality.

But I guess we meanwhile live in a time where opinions matter more than facts.

Everyone is free to believe what ever fairytale he/she wants to believe in but I am not providing a platform for people to spread false narratives.

I could say that I am disappointed... no, not about colliding opinions but about that tries to counter opinions with facts is instantly being dismissed. But that again would be a waste of time.

I pulled the plug, the channel is gone. I am pretty much willing to do the same with the other channels if I am forced to.

What do you mean with DDR5 later?

When you buy a board you either buy one compatible with ddr4 or with ddr5.

You can not switch later without replacing the board.

The nh-d15 always is a good choice. Its been a top recommendation for many years.

Water cooling is nice and clean looking but also more expensive while also more risky. Custom looks are not really for beginners and AIOs usually don't have any repair options while also being more complex than air coolers. If the pump breaks you can buy a new AIO, same with the radiator. When air coolers malfunction you just replace the fan and are good to go again without any major costs.

The benefit water coolers have is that they can compensate heat spikes better. I just dont think you would encounter such very often.

I think the gradual update from one system to another is mostly a matter of $.

Just checked the prices for ddr ram. Did not expect them to have fallen in price that dramatically. Last time I checked the prices were sky high and rising.

Essentially DDR5 could be worth a thought but no. DDR5 is not 50% faster than DDR4 and there are even use cases where DDR4 is better.

While DDR5 supports high clock speeds and high transfer rates most modules have very high cycle values which negate the high clock speeds again, especially when dealing with many small data packages. The use case would be important to make a good decision.

I some time ago posted a formula and examples about how to calculate the true ram speed instead of just judging by fancy clock speed numbers.

It might still might run even if it is not on the list. Actually what I pointed out might be non-sense in your case.

I have not looked into hardware stuff for a pretty long time since my meanwhile 5-6 years old PC still can run everything pretty fine.

But if I am not mistaken the newer boards by default have jedec 3200 certification for ddr4. So the compatibility list I mentioned would be relevant only for ram faster than that.

You are most certainly fine to run the modules you already have at their max speed as long you don't accidentally buy a ddr5 version of the z790 (I think there are differences in slot design).

The processor would be a big step forward with probably ~70% more performance and the option for overclocking. Truth be told... eventhough I can overclock my CPU I actually never do that. It was fun to play around that that stuff in the beginning but in daily use it not really worth thinking about that option.

What you probably should keep in mind is that the new CPU needs 125 watt power, your old one only 65.

The cooler you have might work as it is rated for 180W... but the fans might be very busy. Essentially you can test it and if it turns into too much noise due to active fans you probably should consider a bigger air cooler. At first you probably could just try to use the old one.

    The PSU is rated 80+.

So lets say there is a 20% loss... you would have 400W left to run the PC.

-125W for CPU under full load (without overclocking)

    -180W for GPU (without overclocking)

= 95W left for mainboard, outputs, fans (dunno how many you intend to run), HDD/SSDs, RAM and of course fancy rainbow puke (because every gaming PC has to have it these days).

It might be just enough to run the PC. Yes, it might work, you can try it but if you get blue screens the first thing I would check is the PSU.

And you should certainly avoid charging your mobile phone via the PCs USB ports.
