    Full price PC RTS

game The Dark Legions will only be released before Christmas in a few territories. With

amongst others Atari as distribution partners the pre-sales count already exceeds 75.000

units with more in store in the weeks to come. The reason for the slipped release date in

many territories, including most of Europe and North America is that several distribution

agreements for the title are not in place yet. Due to the tremendous success of the

pre-sales in just 10 countries which didn't even include the traditionally strong markets

like U.K., France, U.S. or Canada publishers Xing Interactive feel confident that sufficient

interest at retail level is generated to acomodate a January 2005 release. The game will be

sold at the equivalent of 29,95 Euro which is just over USD 30.00.

    The Dark Legions

is a medieval fantasy RTS game in which the player steps in the shoes of a young Prince

destined to overthrow his father's murderer who now sits on the throne. Vast armies,

magical and mystical creatures and heavy artillery siege engines are at your disposal to

    achieve this.

Xing Interactive are still looking for distribution partners in some

territories in order to maximise retail exposure. Interested companies can contact Alex de

    Vries at alex@xinginteractive.nl

Gizmondo Europe which is in-fact a subsidiary of Jacksonville,

Florida-based Tiger Telematics Inc, announced the signing of a contract with Microsoft Game

Studios to bring killer gaming titles to this powerful handheld console. This collaboration

will include AAA titles, Age of Empires, MechAssault and It's Mr Pants. These games give

handheld console gamers the ability to experience top Microsoft games.

    This deal with

MS does make us wonder if the U.S. giant considers Gizmondo a viable handheld alternative to

its living-room-console rivals Nintendo and Sony. If that is the case then we can expect

Gizmondo to receive MS support of various shapes and sizes and it is more than likely that

the console will fair a lot better than we may have initially expected. In any case a deal

with Microsoft is always a news-worthy story and definitely a step forward for the fledgling

    handheld.

The Gizmondo device was launched in the UK on 29th October and recently won

the Design Solution of the Year Award at The Electronics Industry Design Awards in England.

This deal helps ensure that Gizmondo users have a rich catalogue of proven game brands, but

with the added value of total mobility and flexibility.

    Indicative of the special

relationship between MS and Gizmondo are Carl Freer's, Managing Director, Gizmondo,

comments: This deal strengthens the existing linkage between Gizmondo and Microsoft Game

Studios. We welcome their enthusiasm and look forward to carrying the titles on our

pocket-sized console. Our collaboration puts both Gizmondo and Microsoft Game Studios in a

great position to meet all challengers in the handheld gaming market.

    The first three

    games approved for release are:

Age Of Empires - Microsoft Game Studio's largest

gaming brand comes to Gizmondo. One of the finest real-time strategy games

    available.

MechAssault - 40-foot-tall, walking tanks battle it out for supremacy. An

ideal, third-person action game for a handheld platform and 'MechAssault' is a huge

    brand.

It's Mr Pants - Developed by RARE, this is a simple puzzle game providing fun

    entertainment. A classic favourite.

There are two more major titles in the

    pipeline.

The Gizmondo is powered by Microsoft Windows CE advanced real-time

operating system, boasting a 2.8-inch TFT colour screen with a Samsung ARM9 400Mhz processor

and incorporates the GoForce 3D 4500 NVIDIA graphics accelerator. It provides cutting-edge

gaming, multimedia messaging, an MP3 music player, Mpeg4 movie playing capability, a digital

camera and a GPRS network link to allow wide-area network gaming. Additionally, it contains

a GPS chip for location-based services, is equipped with Bluetooth for use in multi-player

gaming and accepts MMC card accessories.

The Gizmondo device and its games were

launched in the UK in late October. The Gizmondo will be launched in European and North

    American markets during 2005.

Empire Interactive and Bugbear Entertainment announced

that the PC demo of their Christmas racing title FlatOut is premiering at nVidia's nZone.

Available for immediate download the PC demo shows off two game tracks and one of the cars

as well as a ragdoll sports minigame from the eagerly anticipated racer.

    FlatOut is

high-octane racing at its best, as you throw yourself around 48 tracks and events in the

battle for victory. FlatOut is set to define a new standard in racing games, introducing

fully interactive, open-ended tracks, groundbreaking physics, unique and innovative

    mini-games and ragdoll drivers.

Anything you destroy or alter in FlatOut stays a part

of the race, increasing the carnage to unprecedented levels! Broken fences, free rolling

tires, smashed lamp posts and even mangled parts of cars are left scattered around the

track, increasing the mayhem with every lap and making each race unique. Open-ended

environments give the player the chance to cut corners, take daring shortcuts and really

exploit the vast tracks. And if you push things to far head-on impacts cause your driver to

be thrown out of the windscreen into the mayhem!

A playable PC demo of FlatOut is now

available. Players can experience two of FlatOut's 36 dedicated race courses: Finchley

Challenge forest and Fairgrass Cup race track. The demo also includes one of FlatOut's 12

insane minigames: High Jump. Launch your driver up in the air and over the bars as you aim

to get the greatest height. But remember, what goes up must come down.

In a move which defies Microsoft's insistence to keep Halo 2's plot and

details a secret, copies of the game have already been sold, for as much as USD

    265.

Although Tuesday November 9 is the official launch date for the highly

anticipated sequel, copies have found their way to the Internet auction site Ebay. The most

profitable sale was one completed on Thursday which saw an in-hand copy of the USD 55

special edition Halo 2, including special packaging and a bonus DVD, reach a staggering USD

    265 final sale figure.

Microsoft has, of course, not commented on the actual case in

question but has stressed that it is working hard to ensure that all gamers get the same

enjoyment from Halo 2 once it is released, something impossible if the PC version isn't

released at the same time we say but that is unlikely. In any case the leaks which led to

the appearance of the Halo 2 Ebay copies, must have been very limited since only a handful

made it to the auction website.

The appearance of the French version of the game last

month on filesharing sites was the biggest blow to Microsoft's efforts to keep the

storyline a secret but it is unlikely to affect sales, especially when considering that 1.5

million pre-orders have already been received by the Halo 2 publisher.
    We will not stoop

to discussing comments claiming that the fact that a French copy was leaked meant that the

game received maximum publicity for minimal sales damage but we will say that a game that

features multiplayer action as one of its major weapons is unlikely to be affected by such

    leaks anyway.

A Meijer Inc. spokesman denied recent reports claiming that copies had

been sold at a few stores owned by Midwest retail chain. John Zimmerman said, There is

absolutely no truth to that at all.

So Ebay and filesharing sites aside, the world is

holding its breath as we can now clearly hear the roar of Master Chief's

    Warthog.

    I have

been waiting for this so long. Well, not for writing this article but this was a necessity

to do the other thing: play the sequel to Prince of Persia - Sands of Time (and that over a

month before it hits stores worldwide). While I was a fan of the earlier Prince of Persia

titles the Sands of Time was the first Prince title to totally suck me into the story that I

simply couldnt let my game pad go before I saw the credits roll. So I was expecting much

from the sequel, yes even from the beta. Was I let down? You bet I wasnt

    The Old

Man said to the Prince, Your fate has been written. You will die.

    The Prince

has returned home to Babylon after preventing the terrible events during The Sands of Time

from happening at all. But this came at a price: his alterations of the timelines have

awakened an immortal incarnation of Fate known as the Dahaka. This supernatural creature

that doesnt know the meanings of words such as mercy consumes everything in its path and is

bent on our princes destructionas fast as possible.

    The prince soon realizes that

there is only one way to ensure his survival and end his life on the run (besides giving up

which of course isnt an option). He has to travel to the mystical birthplace of the Sands

of Time and prevent them from being created in the first place, which will hopefully close

the rift in time and calm the Dahaka.

His destination is a remote island, ruled by

the mysterious Empress of Time and the inhabitants of the island are neither man nor beast.

During his travels the princes ship is attacked by a war galley apparently sent by the

Empress herself to prevent the Prince from reaching the island. His crew is slaughtered and

the prince is thrown overboard during a fierce fight with the Empresss female champion. She

is a mysterious character that we will meet many times throughout the game but she doesnt

seem totally convinced that she really wants our prince dead

    Farwell prolonged

    innocence
    ´
Our prince has grown up since we last met him. Living a life in the

shadows, running from an invincible enemy made him restless. Scars give evidence of

countless battles, lost was what was left of his innocence after his adventures in the

sultans palace; yes I would even go as far as claiming that a little madness hides behind

his eyes. He recklessly throws himself into the battle as if he is hoping for an honorable

death in battle to escape the annihilation at the hands of an invincible, supernatural

    being.

But on the other hand those countless battles also refined his already supreme

skills even more. Many new moves, devastating combos and the ability to wield different side

arm were added to his repertoire. Wielding two weapons unlocks even more combos and moves

including throwing the sidearm to heavily damage or even behead distant enemies. Laudable

are also the improved controls. The PC version of Sands of Time was a little harder to

control if you were using a keyboard and a mouse instead of a gamepad but the PC preview

version of Warrior Within doesnt have such problems.

    Back to the future -

    again

Many may wonder if you are still able to rewind time since you returned the

dagger of time to its rightful owners at the end of the prequel. Of course the developers

didnt remove this feature that made the Sands of Time so unique. How they explain this?

This preview version doesnt include the whole story line yet so your guess would be as good

as mine if I didnt have the chance to meet one of the developers at this years Games

Convention in Leipzig. He told me only this: Farah (the princess from Sands of Time if you

dont know) gave the prince a gift before he left (and no, it is not the dagger, think in a

    LITTLE more creative way, please!)

    Pain, Grief and Darkness

    The

atmosphere and level design of Sands of Time was one thing. Our adventure in a beautiful but

abandoned palace that was invaded by a supernatural and evil power wasnt really as pleasant

as a walk in the park on a sunny day but its former beauty was still there.

    And

Warrior Within? It is hard to describe but my mind somehow drew this parallel. What if

something as bad or even worse happened elsewhere and wasnt disturbed for decades or even

centuries? Every single room, every corner, every living creature, the flora and even the

skies themselves were spoiled and became wicked by this unnatural presence. Imagine a place

that hasnt seen joy or happiness in ages, almost everything lies in ruins and what creeps

and walks there is a mockery of life as we know it. Of course countless books, games and

movies tried to capture this mood before but trust me - the atmosphere will give you the

creeps if you really find yourself immerse in the

    game.

    Conclusion:

Preview Code is always a double-edged sword. On the

one hand it calms your hunger but at the same time it simply isnt done yet, and you are

left begging for more if it is a really good game. And if there is one good game to look

forward to this year it is defiantly Prince of Persia: Warrior Within.

Fully Live compatible on the Xbox, SVC CHAOS allows players to take on opponents from all

Several years ago Capcom made a fighting game that took some of

SNK's favourite characters out of their home environment and placed them in the world of

Street Fighter. With the inclusion of different playing styles within one title, the Capcom

vs SNK series made a valiant attempt to bring the SNK fighters to life. The addition of

a major factor in the title showing its developer's roots.

Eidos announced the return of the

world's deadliest assassin in Hitman: Blood Money. Developed by Io-Interactive, Hitman:

Blood Money will be released worldwide in spring 2005 on PlayStation 2, Xbox and

    PC.

When assassins from Agent 47's contract agency, The ICA, are systematically

eliminated in a series of hits, it seems a larger, more powerful agency has entered the

fray. For Agent 47 it's business as usual, until suddenly he loses contact with The ICA.

Sensing that he may be the next target, he travels to America, where he prepares to make a

    killing.

Agent 47 is back and this time he's paid in cold, hard cash. How the money

is spent will affect his passage through the game and the weapons at his disposal, resulting

in a unique gameplay experience for each player. Powered by a new version of Io's stunning

Glacier engine, Hitman: Blood Money will deliver the most brutal and realistic simulation of

life as the world's deadliest assassin.

    Janos Flosser, managing director of

Io-Interactive said Considerable time and effort has been spent developing a new version of

the Glacier engine that enables us to implement many new and exciting features. The quality

of the graphics and A.I. surpasses even our own expectations and this combined with a

gripping narrative and the introduction of some really inventive characters makes us

confident that Blood Money will be the greatest Hitman title to

    date.

2004. The premiere West Coast launch event will be at EB Games' Universal CityWalk

location, and the event will also feature gameplay of never-before-seen Xbox titles on the

    Xbox Console Coach.

Halo 2, the long-awaited sequel that continues the story of

Master Chief, has accumulated 1.5 million pre-orders (and counting). Developed by Bungie

Studios (http://www.bungie.net), the game will be released exclusively for the Xbox. With over five

million units sold worldwide, the Halo franchise, which includes the first release, Halo:

Combat Evolved (2001), and now Halo 2 (2004), has received worldwide recognition and

critical acclaim, raising the bar for first-person shooter games.

    EB Games expects

the Universal CityWalk launch to be an extremely popular event, with swarms of dedicated

fans eager to get their hands on the new title. New Halo 2 accessories will also be

available. Microsoft and EB Games representatives will also be on location to meet with fans

GTA : San Andreas is on its way to creating one of the most

impressive sales records ever achieved for the whole of the entertainment industry. Over its

first weekend in the U.K., the controversial title sold 677,000 copies at GBP 35.45. These

figures mean that the game generated total revenue of GBP 4 million, the best opening

weekend for a movie in the U.K. was achieved by Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,

earlier this year, which brought in GBP 23.88 million.

    The impressive U.K. figure

however, is by no means the limit of San Andreas' success. Although official worldwide

figures have not yet been released, GTA:SA is reported to have sold really well in the rest

of Europe and the U.S. as well. A very basic and relatively accurate estimate suggests that

European sales of GTA:SA must have matched those of the U.K. so total European sales should

be close to 1.5 million. If the U.S. is also doing as well as expected the grand total might

be close to 3 million units sold, an extremely impressive figure.

    In order to help

readers realise the importance of Grand Theft Auto : San Andreas we have to consider that

Sony planned the launch of its new slimline PS2 around the release of Rockstar's game and

it was right to do so. The so called, PSTwo was the driving force behind a significant

hardware sales increase in the U.K. last week which led to the console outselling XBox, its

main rival, by more than 2:1, even though XBox enjoyed a 7 per cent increase in sales.

During the same period the new PS2 outsold GameCube by 17:1. It would be foolish to isolate

the increase in PS2 sales from the release of GTA:SA, an event which defined the launch of

    the revamped PSTwo console.

GTA:SAs potential cannot be underestimated and with 6

weeks left until Christmas, all records seem to be fair game for Rockstar's Welcome to the

Jungle title. The latest target is the GBP 69 million that Titanic grossed in U.K. theatres.

It might seem a long way away yet but GTA has proved itself to be a record breaking kind of

    game.

    Blizzard

Entertainment today announced that its massively multiplayer online role-playing game

(MMORPG) World of Warcraft will be in North American stores on November 23, 2004. World of

Warcraft will launch simultaneously in Australia and New Zealand, and is planned for release

in Korea, Europe, and other countries throughout Asia shortly following. World of Warcraft

will be available for a suggested retail price of $49.99 in the U.S., and will include a

free one-month subscription to the game. The special collector's edition of the game will

also be available at release for a suggested retail price of $79.99 and will include the

World of Warcraft game on both CD-ROM and DVD, a free one-month subscription, a World of

Warcraft behind-the-scenes DVD, an exclusive in-game pet, a cloth map of the game world, a

soundtrack CD, an Art of the World of Warcraft coffee table book, and a commemorative game

manual signed by the development team. Don't forget to download the (amazing) intro

    movie.

    Press Release

    Ubisoft has

announced plans to ship a Tom Clancy Xbox Triple Pack for Xbox, in time for the Holiday

season. The collection, entitled Tom Clancy's Classic Trilogy, is a special three-DVD set

and will include three platinum Xbox titles:

    - Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon : The

military shooter that set the bar for realistic special forces action.

    - Tom

Clancy's Splinter Cell : The award-winning stealth action game that broke graphical

barriers and took the gaming world by storm.

    - Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3 : Still

the No. 1 title on Xbox Live, this counter-terrorism game set the standard in multiplayer

    innovation.

With sales of more than 4 million units in the United States alone, the

Clancy games represent the No. 1 selling Xbox family in that console's history. Now, for

the first time, gamers can enjoy the three titles that started it all at a phenomenal

    value.

Here's what owners of Tom Clancy's Classic Trilogy will enjoy:

CCP, the developer and publisher of the massively

multiplayer online game EVE Online, announced that its EVE Online: Exodus expansion will be

released worldwide on November the 17, 2004.

    Available as a free downloadable

upgrade, the expansion will have a major impact on the EVE universe as a whole. It will

incorporate scores of new game play features, improvements to current functionality,

performance enhancements and user interface changes.

EVE Online is now one of the

fastest growing massively multiplayer online games. In the last 12 months subscriber numbers

have more than doubled to 54,000. This growth has made the EVE server cluster the largest

persistent world with more players on a single shard than any other MMO game in the U.S. and

    Europe.

The EXODUS expansion finally gives our players the opportunity to truly begin

the territorial conquest they have been building up for said Reynir Harðarsson, CCP's Art

Director and founder of CCP. All players can now affect the political landscape of the EVE

world by conquering everything from solar systems to whole regions of space... This feature

originated from the player community, and demonstrates well that EVE is a living world that

    evolves through player interaction.

EVE Online: Exodus is predicted to have a

revolutionary impact on the persistent world game genre. Exodus contains new tools that

allow powerful players to manage very large political structures like alliances, which can

contain thousands of players each. The sizes of player alliances in EVE are considerably

greater than in any other MMO game. By formalizing the gathering of player corporations into

player alliances, along with tools sets to allow these massive entities to control

territory, the current underlying power structures will be more visible to

    players.

The EVE 3D graphics engine has been enhanced to offer outstanding

performance in demanding situations such as when hundreds of players engage in massive fleet

battles. New special effects, ships and NPCs, along with many interface changes further

enhance the player's immersion and experience of actual space flight. To demonstrate the

new expansion, CCP has released a new EVE Online: Exodus trailer available by following the

    download tab above.

Exodus improves the starting experience for new players. For the

first time new players will get a detailed manual to guide them along their way. Casual

players will also enjoy the new Deadspace Complexes, which are massive game arenas, where

they can gather and join forces with other players to attempt to complete large scale

    battles with NPC's.
