The most interesting way I died, was coming out from docking on a planet and not seeing the BS in-front of me. I hit the BS and bounced around till both him and me exploded in the atmesphere. Just my luck my Bro was sitting there watching me throughout all this and laughing at the same time.
Now I check and move away for the planet before heading out.

    :patsch: Unlucky!

hehe, this are normal ways to die...
While returning from IC (yep, my first IC trip), i entered the wondrous, marvelous, dizzieous Hyperspace. I took a good look in front of my ship, and i saw the exit, or what it seemed to be the exit. A little round hole at the far end of a red rotating tunnel. Good. And so i went. And went. And went... and went some more. After which i went. And went. I think days passed. At moments the tunnel changed around me. Yet i still went. Finally, i died. Just like that. I think i've discovered the end of universe, and felt out of it.
Of course, next time i just took the JH next to me. (TY Hero).

Flying out of the Universe? I've never done that in FL! However, I once played a fairly straightforward space shooter called Sinistar Unleashed, where if you flew too far out, a group of "unknown entities" would materialise out of nowhere and blow you to pieces.

I tried the solution and it worked. However, when the mod is started up, it automatically downloads updates, including one that overwrites "m13.ini". This means that the only way to keep open SP working normally is to overwrite "m13.ini" with "openspm13.ini", then start the game with internet connections disabled.

I think you might need to take a look at the automatic update system a little more closely. Not being a modder myself, I wouldn't really know for sure, but I think you might find the problem there.

Hehe indeed there are numerous ways, glad you found a few yourself. One of my favorites is:
I ended up in Sovetskaya - far beyond civilization and starred at my navigation computer. Wow that far. Ok i entered to head to Kuibyshev and let the engines heat up. I recognized the journey could take some while. So i did decide to get a break and rest for a while in the back of my ship.

Last a few moments - no hours - and then I woke up by an alert ringing. Trembling around like a zombie i didn't recognized the reason - nothing to worry. Because my ship got blown into pieces by some stupid mines that were floating around. Strange thing - the first few miles through that field just didn't notified me of a real danger - guess someone made a joke to put the danger mines somewhere in the center of the entire field :)
Getting re-spawn far far away from Sov i decided to give me another bunch of sleep before i will try again^^

I've actually tried using minefields against enemies before. It seemed to work, and I even managed to lure a mothership to its doom.

I was feeling quite proud of myself until...

"Hey, what's that looming up in fron- MINE!!! <BOOM!> D'oh!"

It took me a while to get used to the improved AI of Crossfire, but I found the fights a lot more entertaining. I did find the Nomads slightly easier... until I visited their home systems. :pinch:

Make sure you're well equipped before taking on the later enemies. A certain gunboat destroyed my brand new VHF with its first salvo!

I will start by admitting that I'm not very good at Crossfire. I actually struggled with the later missions in the original FL story and got vaporized by Nomads quite a few times. Even outside of the hard missions I seem to have a talent for finding new and entertaining ways to get blown out of the sky.

After making a lot of progress through the Crossfire story missions, I headed for Dom'Kavash territory for the latest mission, and encountered a Dom'Kavash gunboat, which shredded my shiny new fighter with its first volley. This is not the worst example of humiliation by far. I've collided with random torpedo volleys, planets and even stars while distracted.:blush2:

If anyone else would like to share strange, unusual or just downright funny ways to fail in Freelancer or Crossfire, please join in.

I've been having a similar problem. I've tried re-installing Freelancer from scratch, and even re-downloading the Crossfire mod and re-installing it before trying again. I still end up stuck in the Freeport 7 system with no way out.
