ahhh memories.... my first full load of prisoners in my first char in crossfire after I found out you could sell them for more than a 1 credit .. I knew there was a prison around there somewhere so started a search pattern, saw it pop up on the map, set a course, clicked goto (or dock cant remember which) and went to make a cup of coffee.....

how odd, had the very same bug crop up. Started the missions from scratch after the new launcher was installed .. no solution as yet, oh and also tried with a previous save to with the same effect

I'm really sorry to hear this ..Firdragon was a pretty cool guy and and his constructive enthusiasm for crossfire will be missed.

    Hi
Well this time its for the music background in Utopia. I love that piece and whats more its perfect for a machinima I'm making of of some of my stuff. So Im looking to track down the name of the person who composed / played it for the acknowledgments and maybe where I could get my hands on a copy of it. If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated.

    Hi

    And welcome Rohan,

Im in Australia and have normal ping around 330 - 340 with usually 0 loss and 0-1 fluct mostly 0 with only the odd occasion being more than that... its a landline .. wireless I suspect would be very different). The gameplay against NPCs is good and I seem to do ok despite the huge ping. It does "seem" less hits are required in single player but not very noticeably. With PvP it probably more pronounced but that could also be my lack of practice too.

Im actually curious to know how the two modes are computed on the server if anyone has the knowledge /time to elaborate.

I think you find most here play in generous fashion towards each other the above example by cygna1 more the norm rather than the exception (of course pirates may prefer greater displays generosity from time to time but hey, that's what pirates do and they make the world a more interesting place)

its a great mod ..a work of art really, a good server and of course its the people on it that make it so

This thread inspired me to try the hermes out as well now, it has the same loadout as the tiger but is almost, but not quite, a totally different shape.
On a related topic ... why are most the really cool light fighters placed in stations that are so far from where someone new to crossfire is likely to try them?
Ships like the Goshawk and quicksilver look great and would have people drooling if the were purchasable in california or colarado but if you have made it to altir space your unlikely to trade down from a heavy fighter and the DK or C Rogues would make short work of you anyway. On the other hand if your new they would be just the thing for liberty space and surrounds and would be a great advertisment for crossfire. I know the shade is available and its a good light fighter but at 4 M too pricey for people who are still trying to firgure out what all these 1 credit pods filling up their holds are good for.

Ive been haveing lots of fun flying the tiger for a few weeks now... I keep thinking I should trade it in but can't bring myself to do it its such a blast ... Properly equipted it can handle most things as long a you remember to keep the shield up ... with 1700 armour it fizzles pretty quickly once it goes. Having said that it I use itsucessfully amd easily to collect pods agains top level outcasts during missions. The low armours would make it suck for PvP but tiger against tiger would be real fun ( or tiger against drizzet or devil ray for that matter )
hmmm .... light fighter round robin anyone?

This is something that has puzzled me. Ive asked a few people and had conflicting responses about with pretty well all saying they don't really know but they think.... Fabby is quite right when she says there is nothing but confusion around it.

Part of my puzzlement stems from the fact that there are different types of pvp. There pvp that happens by agreement ..in the arean for example its a game .. fun. a gentleman sport that bears the same level of realism that say fencing does to a real sword fight ie not much. The only reason I can see why people dont use bots bats here is because the because it would extend the length of the battle and people want to hurry things along. (though even here it seem a strange tradition as the ships (Im assuming) have been balanced with the number of bots/bats as one of the factors)

Then you have pvp thats the result of RP :- piracy, law enforcement or bounty hunting. This stikes me as a totally different situation where you are fighting for your life (or something :) ) and not to use bats/bots not only seems silly but spoils the sense of immersion. I may add just for the record where Ive been involved in pvp of this sort Ive erred on the side of caution and not used bots/bats.

I would love to hear why people shouldn't use bots / bats in the latter case, not just using tradition as an argument but some real justifications. Otherwise maybe we should open up to the idea that maybe its ok and could well enhance RP rather than detract from it.

After all this is crossfire the mod that has the games toughest NPCs with reloadable bats/bots. To then say that people shouldn't use bats /bot in PvP seems ..well a bit wimpy.

One immediate benefit may be that people start using a greater number of ships. It seems pretty odd that we have hundreds of ships but only half a dozen are ever actually used with maybe 4 only ever used regularly in the arena.

Wrote this before I saw OPs post... might be not be the most sensible thing to disagree with OP on my first post to the forum but..hey, I wouldn't play CF if I was put off by things like that :)

Actually I have to agree with rhn. He makes a very valid point about what I think is the worst part of what is a really wonderful mod. This is something I have been meaning to bring up since I started playing crossfire, mainly because it must drive so many people away from crossfire before they get a chance to experience what it can be like.

The first point Id like to make is that you should stick with it. The tediousness of the dogfights starts to dissipate around the Willard research station mission (course the acquisition of a new fighter like a Trident and better weapons helps.. the weapons you can get in the Liberty systems just seem inappropriate). You will not have such a poor experience in any other part of the of the crossfire mod.

And rhn CF can be absolutely amazing , the graphics in the new systems are stunning, the level of work that OP and the team have put into the crossfire mod (and are putting into the next release) is to be seriously admired especially given the limitations they have to work with. This is something I have an idea about as I do a lot of scripting / 3d modelling work in another viritual environment and have developed an decent rep for.

The challenge and the thrill of the Inner Core systems (GMG side) is something you have to experience, though, preferably in MP, SP maybe not so good. I was a bit wary of heading into MP but I have to say Im pretty glad I did. They are decent people here ... err..mostly and the ones who may be a touch awkward simply add colour / interest/ amusement.

OP would have an idea of what the attrition rate with new players is for MP and I would suggest that its probably a lot worse in SP where you cant ask anyone for advise or hear from experienced players that it gets better. SP is how I had my first taste of CF (and I suspect that's the case with most people) though I soon started playing somewhat concurrently with MP. If I hadn't discovered the Custodian gate by chance near Rochester (only because I made a habit of getting a better thruster the first chance I could) CF would of been history .. uninstalled.

The main failing is that the Liberty missions both in SP and MP are just tedious. They are about as thrilling as counting paper clips. They are just not enjoyable in any way. They suck a lot of time for absolutely no reward in either skill building or adrenaline. Worse, as a newbie you don't see what is remarkable about Crossfire in the liberty system. This is terminal for any game. To have them at the start of CF (or anywhere) is I think just odd.

oh ..and one more point , if you see ships teleporting (or jerking wildly as opposed to the smooth but complicated evasion behavoir ) then you have lag, either client ( your system/connection) or server lag ...yeah it happens from time to time but I think of it as being like bad weather .. it will pass.
