Babieca the mainpoint of this thread is why fights can take so long. Shields and weps are fine to discuss, but lag is the main culprit. If people cant hit each other because the ships are jumping around then weps really dont matter.
Sorry OP, one more idea for lag issue.
What if the players could check each others ping and packet loss with a tool like with FL commands or some other command.
I remember seeing a thread some time ago where a player complained they were no lagger so unban. OP showed a screenie displaying several players ping and packet loss. That Player was clearly lagging. Good thing is I saw my char on that screenie and saw packet loss of 4. I contacted my ISP and now have 0 packet loss.
If players could check each other and take screenies of lagging players then people would correct their connection problems as I did. People wouldnt run other programs whenever SP not around or suddenly when losing in combat. They know they would be caught redhanded. It would allow SP to play more as it should be. The screenies could then be forwarded to the SP for review and action if warranted. Screenies for lag should never be posted on this forum by non SP or non Admin.
If this idea is possible, we would see players clean house very quickly and then no more lag threads or posts. Yahoo !!

that would end with witch hunts

Lag is a complex issue. Connection speeds with the net, geographic location, packet loss, and even processor capability can all screw with a person's game performance while on the server. Some days my ping is well over 200, but I can PvP while hardly causing lag. Other times my ping is the same and other factors change, causing impossibly-difficult fighting conditions.
Lag is a part of multiplayer gaming that cannot be easily done away with. There will always be lag, but if people would follow the serverules and stop running other programs and making downloads while playing it wouldn't be anywhere near as bad. At least, looking at the bright side for a moment, the lag can simulate skill for some players that have none and make the fights draw out to a more dramatic length. There's not really a point to making a lag thread when there's little else to say on the subject. We all know about it, experience it, and wish it would go away, but talking about it won't help it all. It's not like OP has a magic lever to pull to make it go away.
(Btw, the only thing I think would be worthwhile to see in weps would be a pulse wep and a couple of codenames that do less damage, use more energy, but have a refire rate around 8/sec. This would help in PvP especially if heavy lag is in effect, but on the other hand it wouldn't kill people to learn how to dogfight with what we've already got.)

BURRO, I started this threat about fights, and ppl started to talk about lag not me
I just said that maybe that players should start another threat about lag, it was an ironic comment.
I am not interested in talking about lag.
So , well if you wanna talk about lag dont do it in this threat , you included BURRO

you asked about fights and that they can take a long time...
lag is the biggest factor in that m8 its near impossible to discuss a players abillity when there is lag involved
and oi oi marshal when you have faster firing weapons wouldnt that mean more stuff in space that factors in on the lag again?
