Bad Connection Problems

  • I'm hoping someone can help me here. I can't seem to get a stable connection the CF server. I have a 1.5mbit connection that works fine in everything other than when trying to connect to the server. I have no other software running, nothing is downloading, updating or anything else, yet I get a near constant red lan lag light while ingame. If anyone could offer any suggestions, they would be muchly appreciated.

  • Try this to see where the problem is

Open Command Prompt ,make sure it is at C:
then type tracert 87.106.22.90 and press enter

Also do same with this command

    ping 87.106.22.90

post results here if you wish

  • well, first off, this is a totaly clean re-install of Freelancer as I didn't load it up after rebuilding machine, so it's clean as with no other previously installed mods.

Following is the tracert report, followed by the ping.

  • Looks like there are a few probs when it tries to connect from NZ.
The connection when it reaches Spain? isnt good and you get bounced around a lot of diff networks.

I dont believe there is much you can do on your side.that 25% packet loss isnt good tho.
Maybe worth asking your ISP about that

  • Thats odd, I'm performing the tracert right now, and I'm getting: Request Timed Out, all the time...

Yet I don't have connection problems, and the server is up and running with 38 players on... ?(

Edit: Okay here are the results from the tracert and ping.

  • What I mean by "so much data" is all the times in between each "hops". I don't see any times, I just see three * and then: Request timed out.

Oh and Wavey, I have no idea what causes this because, as I said, I have no problems connecting to the server. Maybe its just the Windows Firewall that won't let me, or OP's firewall which blocks pings... I dunno. Whatever it is, its not preventing me to play on the server.

  • ok guys please don't install this: nvidia firewall if you have it installed sorry to say but the only way to fix it is a clean install of windows and never install it
if you have windows firewall on please turn it off and use one from either sygate(now norton firewall) or zonealarm or kerio those 3 are the ones i would advise
(not a big fan of zonealarm cause of all the probs i had with it) but nvidia firewall is the shitti*st piece of firewall software i ever had and it causes loads of problems so if you have it installed please get rid of it by reinstalling windows (cause just deinstalling it won't work) and i know where i speak of I'm a hardware specialist and i helped alot of people in the past

  • yea, what cyb said :D
he's right on windows firewall, I had experience with its imperfections and I trust him when he says nvidia is made of fail.
The only firewall I trust is Symantec/Norton, but those might be a bit consuming for people who don't have the best computers.
