Explain explosion damage SP?

I'm not sure if this is intentional or not, but I just bought the Shade and now whenever I take down a criminal fighter I take massive damage.

This never happened with the Defender, which had only 894 shields.

The Shade has 3143 shields yet they're knocked out with one enemy death... I'm not understanding. Is it a class thing?

I'm surprised you didn't get any explosion damage in the defender. It's not a bug. Just don't be too close to a someone about to pop.

I think I'm surprised now as well that I didn't notice it before... I've a few more hours played since making the thread... noticing how silly the question was. Thanks.

Not a silly question, just a matter of more time playing the game to learn these things. All part of the normal learning curve. Note also that the bigger the ship, the bigger the explosion so keep that in mind as well!
