Newbie question : Crossfire story lines in Freelancer SP?

  • Another basic question - me being new to the mod et al.
I'm currently playing the SP in CF. I read that CF has greatly enhanced FL by adding its own story line missions. Do I get to access these as part of the FL story line/after the conclusion of the FL Story line?

  • Yes you do.

After you complete the original FL Story Line, you can do the CF Quests afterwards.

  • Forgive magnanimously, but whether is where or the description and, whenever possible, passage of these quests? I with the big work have extracted a disk with the data in Death valley and what to do(make) I shall not understand further. If there are references to this theme I ask.

  • Well, once you found it... you can sell it now for a good amount of money => Which I am sure that you're going to like.

The Quest system begins with reading the News. It continues via occasional rumors and secret/hidden objects that you have to find.

You do not have to complete the story line before doing Quests... you can begin at any time.

The story line covers one sector (Sirius). There are two more sectors to explore (three if you count the way OP counts ;) ). The Quests take you all the way through these two (or three) additional sectors.

In other words, you can play the Quests for a very long time... Crossfire is vast!

  • Not trying to necro an old post but I had a similar question. I've beaten the original freelancer many times over and the promise of new campaign missions is what got me into this mod (great work btw), and I was wondering whether I have to grind through the story mode again, starting at freedport 7, or if I can jump right into the CF missions. If I can, as the above posts seems to indicate, do the new missions come up automatically like the original freelancer story mode? Essentially I'm just looking for info on how the new main CF story mode works and how to access it. Thanks!

As answered above, yes, you can follow the Crossfire story without doing the single-player campaign. You can play the Crossfire Quests in all three installation types (Multi Player, Open Single Player, or Single Player Campaign).

Open Single Player is simply Single Player without the Campaign (the original 13 missions from vanilla Freelancer).

If you enjoy the Freelancer campaign, I will point out that it is much more challenging/interesting in Crossfire. The missions are the same, but the enemies are quite a bit tougher. The mission to destroy the experimental fleet (of Nomad battleships) is epic in Crossfire.

The Crossfire story is based on Quests rather than missions (for now, at least). The Quest system begins with News, so read the News at your favorite bar (or any bar). Follow the clues to solve the Quests. Clues may appear as News, objects found on wrecks, bar rumors, the info screen for an object in space, or the inventory detail for an object in your cargo hold.

The Quests are interesting and fun, and make the game far more challenging than the original 13 missions.

    Have fun!
