Crossfire/Vista Guide

  • Hi, first post. Can anyone out there point me in the direction of a step-by-step Crossfire/Vista solution? Something similar to the excellent CF installation guide seems to be called for. Apparently, some ingenious modders out there have accomplished this feat. Since most of the computers out there come w/Vista installed, wouldn't it make sense to have a process in place to allow Vista users access to the Crossfire universe?
Please refrain from the "Vista Sucks" remarks, as I am already aware of this fact. If a decent computer was still available with XP, I would have bought it. Now I'm just trying to make do with what I have.

  • I can't tell you if there is a Vista guide but I can tell you what I did to get CF running on Vista. Follow the CF guide but at every stage you install a program, don't double click, right click and select 'Run a Admin'. This includes installing the game, so don't let the CD autorun, open it and find the install .exe and run that as admin as well.

    Hope that helps.

  • I completely forgot how i installed it, but the fact that i'm playing CF on Vista is proof that even a complete computer idiot can do it.

So, heads up, see you online soon :)

  • just as anca said already.

Install the game (and! the mod) as administrator. Means, don't use the 'Autostart' option of the cd, during installation.

When the game is installed, just start it as administrator as well.

And don't forget to give CF permission to connect to the internet (if you get asked, cause the firewall might block it, at the first run)

I run CF on WinXP and Win Vista and both is working quite perfect.
And I didn't do anything special, during the installation on the Vista system, but running as administrator.

I'm on a 4-week-vacation now and I'm looking forward to leave germany on Tuesday next week, for a first time visit at my parents-in-law.

3,5 weeks America.. well. I hope I will survive the experience I might get there.
