hello... every time i try to play in single player as soon as i click on start single player in game on title screen it just goes back to desktop and freelancer closes....
if anybody can help would be very grateful as i only have very limited internet and cant get online very well...

do u have removed all ur previous saved games (including restart.fl)?

had the same problem - however for me it was in multiplayer not single. A complete clean reinstall of freelancer AND CF fixed it for me. simply backup your saved games first though and don't repaste them when cf is installed
