I started CF in SP Open and flew to buy a Liberty Defender. From there I struggled on to the Tokyo system and bought a Barracuda. I barely made it back ti Manhatten in one piece. The level one missions are plenty tough with the regenerating shields. How the hell will I survive in the more difficult areas? Any suggestions?

"make some money" - that's kind of the problem. The lower missions don't pay squat. I suppose I could buy a freighter and trade; I had hoped to increase my level through combat, though.

Salvage, salvage, salvage! There are millions of $$'s on the wrecks. All the vanilla FL wrecks are there, and many more in the CF systems...

So the key to overcoming the shield difficulty lies in better equipment, ala money. I like the shield thing, though. How do you deal with high end enemies? One more thing - I assume I am better off in vanilla space until I have a pile of money?

I'm not sure if that is true. In MP there are really evil guys in most of the omicrons, first time i met them i didn't even realize what hit me. I reckon it's the same in SP.
As for the enemies you know from vanilla freelancer: They don't have better ships or weapons in Crossfire, but the reloading needs a lot of time to finally kill them. -
not truth , use rockets /torpsand anti shield guns . they reload when got 1/3 hp in this moment u must hit by rocet or torp.
and to get cash SELL PODS, hunt down newbie pirates around rochester ( the junkrs base near Manhatan ) fly to texas sell pods in rpison ble bleble take lowest posible misions kill every one take pods. i NEVER EVER trade in singleplayer. im enoughgt of fly train in multiwhen u got eagle fly to x11 and takemisions on cxfire planet, VS CORSAIRS
use torp ALWAYS . u can kill 2 wings of VHF aces pilots in aboute 3 minutes and u got like 1,300 m from this + 500 k from mision pay
good tactick , but u always can search fro 10m worth data disc
