Players using rank in game

  • While trading I have had a pirate come to me for tax. During our conversation they told me that I should pay as I am rank x which means I have at least $y million.

I am wondering on what the communities feelings are on players in RP situations using abstract game terms.

Personally I think it sucks and is very poor RP.

  • well in most cases the rank x depends on your amount of money as well as the overall experience (explored stuff)

for me as pirate it doesn't bother what amount of money do your really have - but i am more concerned about your level. As this is evidence for taxing you with the appropriate amount.

Instead you could be happy that he was asking you for tax - he also have could have shoot you in pieces without asking ;)

Your role would have been to pay (at least 1 possibility), to evade or (the what could be expected of a cop) shooting the pirate without warning (I know hard in a train but a possibility too ;)

And i am sure he mentioned that you should have to pay coz you were in a train and he has seen his chances very high to shot you. So for my understanding you had to deal with a polite pirate ;)

    obviously that wasn't me...mwahaha...;)

    Keep on rockin'...!!;)

  • Well we do have rules for how much and how often

As you can see he could have just killed you on sight.
I watch who is in system so I am prepared .
Actually it is good RP ,we have to have rules i am afraid.

As to using abstract terms that is upto whoever is talking not everyone acts in character and is upto them if they do or dont.

  • You are missing the point. Rank is part of the game mechanics. Yes you need to know it for setting appropriate fines/taxes. I am also aware that pirates can blow me out of space without warning

My point is that I do not think that it has any place in a RP situation. You are playing a role as a character in the CF universe. That character does not know he has a rank let alone what someone elses rank is.

btw- I think you will find that rank is based purely on the monitary value of the character, cash, ship, equipment and cargo. It has nothing to do with experience.

  • matter of fact is (like you already said too) we need the rank the determine the amount of money we can tax from you.

So i don't understand your point here. The character itself (pirate in this case) has the job to tax anyone he think needs to be taxed.

Well his statement about your rank and LOE was inappropriate but OK. Without the knowledge of your rank - we cant do our job not very good and it would cause more problems as using the level of experience in game.
BTW you cops have to use the same table to reference what amount of fine you can put on anyone.

And if you would fine me (e.g. lvl 90) with 10 mil - and i say - hey what about 1 mil instead. I am sure you wont lol about and thing this damn guy has more than 1000 million credits - why the heck he don't want to pay 10 mil...

Maybe i didn't got your point - pls try to explain it more clearly for me^^

  • His point is that mentioning rank is "Out of Character " in roleplaying .

My point is that its very minor and not that "OC"
Especially if it was in a private chat not system chat.

Not everyone stays "In Character" at all times ,I never do in group or private chat .

    In RP terms

He read you your rights as required by the terms of his Pirate Licence and you were fined according to the FL pilot registry

    How is that then? :)

  • Well between you I have been given my answer. This should not be done but it is not a big issue.

    Thanx for your opinions
