1st, install everything EXACTLY according to instructions, including cf1.7e patch if u have troubles getting updates in launcher,
2nd, if u r vista user, get familiar and try these solutions,
3rd, if u have installed everything according to instructions =>

1. run fl,
2. wait until launcher updates files up to 484 (update will stop there),
3. run sp from launcher menu,
4. let main fl menu load,
5. exit fl completely,
6. run fl again,
7. wait until launcher updates files up to 494 (update will stop, and mp button will activate if everything is fine),
8. run mp using newly available mp button,
9. select multiplayer at the menu,
10. select fl server,
11. enjoy.

umm.. that weird window is the launcher which downloads files for dynamic economy and dynamic universe, and then when all the files are downloaded, lets you launch [duh] Freelancer Crossfire to get online and have fun w/ others lol
