If you have a pretty powerful graphic card(for a good fps rate) you can increase the resolution to the max of your monitor, normally the freelancer itself allows to go to a higher resolution that 1024x768, but in the case it doesn't, you can use the searcher and "resolution" and you may find one of the threads saying how to do it manually and also make it look cool.
