ive been able to test the story npcs for 6 weeks nowthey use exactly the number of bots/bats that they are allowed to useand yes they have higher class weapons... but since that are so terrible ships its not the problem (no story npc is using something better than a medium fighter) shields generally have a recharge rate (just like the shields that every normal player does use)

at least sometimes it is possible
