Hagar is referring to your user profile. In Win 2000 or XP, each user on the OS has a profile. If your profile is setup as an administrator, you have full access to the pc and can install and uninstall programs. If you user profile is limited, you will not be able to access the multiplayer aspect of Crossfire 1.7. You need to have your profile upgraded to administrator for the MP element to work.

I generally restart my pc between each step of the installation process. That gives me a clean ini file to work with. (Install Freelancer, test it and restart. install Mod manager, restart. Install Crossfire, activate, and restart) It sounds anal, and takes longer, but I generally have fewer issues.
