could in theory be a self update that fails because files in the mod folder are write protected

right click the folderGo to propertiesMake sure that the write protection is not selected and apply this to all files in the folder when asked

doing it on the main folder will show a prompt to apply the settings to all files within the folder and its sub folders

If the files return to the write protected state then some program on your pc is causing it.Some AV tools or other security and cleanup tools are very restrictive.

I generally would not recommend having two mods installed at the same time but that is due to incompatibilities with savegames. This very likely prevents the game from launching.But I guess that's a different problem from what you currently experience.I can only guess here. The launcher has been tested and worked well so far under every known windows version since windows 95.
