I think the characters make a huge difference on how you like a game.e.g. Metro Exodus was not much better than the default shooter... but the characters and the story telling based on them made this game special.Mass Effect 1-3 were also special because of the characters.Nobody will forget Mordin Solus or Tali, Wrex etc.Special characters make a game more likable. a battleship wouldn't have made a difference. Even a group of bs wouldn't.The way I see it you either end in a territory with friendly aliens and your battleships might be misinterpreted an invasion force or you end in hostile territory and get your ass beaten unless you bring a giant fleet into battle.
