Well, Crossfire supports the original storyline completely and it actually is required to play it in order to play the crossfire storyline campaign which directly extends the original Freelancer story. You can play the original storyline without Crossfire but in my eyes it makes not much sense to play with the old graphics when you can have the new graphics of Crossfire instead.

Crossfire graphics are high-res already and mostly better than the other known graphic updates for sure other HD mods are pretty good but they recycle a few common textures which limit their variation of look
