The white background means there's no pixel there, so when it's used, you will see the grey background instead of that white, including the "Shadows" you can notice.

An Ice effect logo is needed, sooner or later, like for the "light" style of the forum, as there will be more versions some day. But something like the current lava logo, in ice cubes instead of dots would look cooler and realistic as well, imo

I never had photoshop (just seen it and touched it a bit somewhere else) , I used stuff like GIMP >_> and it's not enough for such effects.
