At least this is pretty easyer to mod than many of the games after 2005... Special effects are the harder ones here (that's why Crossfire has the best effects as OP made them). Modding can be easy, adding new stuff different from what the game has is pretty harder, like that idea of different docking posted above.

Not really, the ones OP posted some have more graphics but harder ship control, or inertia, or inverted drectins with no chance of changing them... etc and makes the game be worse than Freelancer even it would have more graphics.
