lol... second the motion. 20 min. between post and winner is just a little quick. I think 2nd and 3rd place prizes would be a good idea. No winners declared untill at least 12 hours... that gives slow pokes like me a chance to at least log on.... just a thought, it's your contest.

You don't play Multiplayer? That's the best part! I've been trying for almost a whole year to get even half way through the SP version, (and someday I will) But I always get ...lonely and then log into MP and do some exploring and trading. I like having the ability to interact with living people, makes trading a lot more fun. Yeah, sure, sometimes some one comes along and scatters your ashes to the solar winds for no reason other than they can. Just remember that they probably had a bad childhood and this is the only way they can feel superior. Don't hate them, pity them for missing out on the spirit of the game. all you can do is keep trying.

Just like the 3D, keep trying. I have an Nvidea GTX 550ti and have been thinking 'bout the 3D thing my self. So keep us informed and keep trying. Hopefuly we'll see you on line someday. Give it a try, you can always play by yourself...

Thanx to everybody who replied and gave their much appreciated "two cents". In the end, I took the advice of the majority and went with an Nvidea GTX card. Settled on the GTX 550 ti. She's a sweet little card with 1 GB GDDR5 memory at a great price around $150.00, give or take taxes. Mine came with a $20.00 rebate which makes the deal just that much sweeter.

Again, big thanx to all the "hardcores" who replied. Now I look totally awsome when I get blown to space dust...

Yeah, the first time Crossfire MP bites your butt, one of two things usually happen... you either go home to Mama and crawl under the bed and cry, or sit there stunned for a minuite or two in silence and think to yourself, "wow, what was THAT?" ...then you're hooked. Welcome abord.

    The
wife and i got into a heated "discussion" one night about
just that. She swore (literally) up and down that it was the theme
from Hogan's Hero's". It is very similar but not an exact match.
I can't wait to prove to her that i was right. This makes it the
fourth time in our 20 years together that i was right...

My video card just went the way of the Dodo bird. So now i'm in the market for a new one. my problem is that I'm not sure which one to get.
I had a Zoltan 9800 gt with 512 mb and it worked just fine, but it's now time to up grade. I don't want to spend too much money, and I still want to stay in the Nvidia family.
Does anybody have any good reviews (or bad) for a next generation card?

(I was in the middle of a great trade run, too...)

First of all, I'd like to congratulate you on a successful install on not one but two computers. I'm a little envious of you, but that's not important right now.

The bad news is that you can't run the server side of Crossfire, at least not the way you would want to. There is only one server for Crossfire and I think that's the way it's going to stay.

So, do what I do; create a profile on the swat 24/7 portal, log on and have a good time exploring and meeting strange and interesting people on-line. Use the single player version to try out different ships or whatever you choose before you commit your character online.

Almost all lighthouses in Canada are now automated with no oe inside to communicate with. Another example of budget cuts. I think the Government is considering turning off the lights at night to save money on electricity too ...

Remember the old saying, "There's two certainties in life, death and taxes."

...well it's been changed to, "The only certainties in life are death, taxes, and computer problems."

...I can only imagine the stress you experienced OP, so thank-you from the CF community for your efforts...

There's one more certainty in life that you may have forgotten ...Towing.:beaengstigend:

As a new member I just want to say, "Thank-You". Thanks for making one of my favorite games better. Until recently I'd been playing the same original game over and over again; running into the same wall of boredom after my first million credits or so. Now, because of the efforts of a lot of talented people, it's almost like a brand new game to me. Sure, some things are harder, but without challenges the soul starts to wither and die. I am looking forward with great anticipation at whatever new challenges exist in the next unexplored system. 8)
