you know
something with perhaps screenshots or so, that a noobyNOOB as I am "sees" where he has to hit with his mouse and when.
I mean these hud icons and stuff.
I hope you didn't take my saying as an offense or critic on the GRs, ... or them beeing the mentioned problem.

I think you "just" tapped an open wound there.
From the countless pvp-, pr-discussions, complains of one player against the other before the admin
you might be able to find on the boards, esp. if look a bit farther in time,
you describeed exactly, what's wrong..
Unfortunatly, the ones, that shouldl ensure, that rp is played JUST AS YOU described it, and
AS IT'S STATED IN THE RULES , the "Galaxy Rangers" are almost non-present.
ATM this is a bit ... a big part, of the problems with CF, as stated by OP in "Consequences"
Looks really NICE 
....but imho still quite "atmospheric.
Ever tried to ..well about half the wings and make instead 4 wings, lika X-configuration ?
Could look then more "rocket-like", perhaps.

Mr. Roberts doesn't have ANY rights on Freelancer. He sold them to microsoft to fund his plans of making his (mediocre at best) films.
Due to this "rights"-stuff there will never be a "Freelancer 2" if not microsoft decides to make one.
(beside the MUCH BETTER STUFF made already by lots of modders, built on Freelancer, even though microsoft never opended the source code
up to the public. OHHHH ! What that could have made possible, can be seen by the Freespace 2 Open, now a game engine capable of things even
the original developers at volition games never thought of to be possible.)
Well, doesn't really help me with that itch, but I think I have to live with it.
Best way to tackle this (Chris Roberts's stuff):

and make it better before he can come up with anything.

I would second, that this reapearing of Chris Roberts bears the danger, that further developing of Freelancer (mods) might drop
down to a trickle - for some time. Especially if they don't "deliver" something more substantial, what most likely will take A LOT OF TIME,
more than " just a years work, as announced.
Nonetheless, almost everybody on this planet interested in Freelancer WILL go there.
And this Disco thread there gives me quite an itch, I don't know how to reach.

I mean the FL related board ON the site of Chris Roberts.
But could be wise for other "SWATers" and "Crossers" to go there from time to time.
ATM the freelancer related boards get a bit conquered by "Discos". Seems they try to lay out a picture, as if Discovery is THE one and only true
ongoing, surviving Freelancer game community and Freelancer mod at all.
(Or am I just a bit too suspicous ????)

"the best ship" available for his money. "The best" in that way, that the ship suits his personal preferences, abilities and purposes the "best" way.
How well do I perform on "engine kill"-mode with thrusters alone ?
Am I good enough at dogfight not to have to rely too much on armour ?
Do I plan to travel through regions of asteroid or space debris fields or rely on trade lines?
What kind of goods will I transport and how much cargospace may I need ?
Will I go on trading at all or will I become part of one of the several fighting forces all over Sirius, our violence plagued home ?
These are only some of the questions every space ship buyer will have to answer himself. The task of this publication is to help him to settle on a
space craft, that fits his personal, individual answers to all these questions is , if only on the question about handling.
Since the spacecraft seller are obliged to give at least some data (armour, mountable weaponry) truely, informations on flight performance are let
to their advertising brochures, that are often misleading and resemble the "CAR SELLERs" attitude I mentioned in the opening. One of the more
infamous ones doesn't tell you anything abou the ships handling but offers you - as a "bonus" - nude dancers (isn't that on the brink of slavery ?)
and free rum dispensers with a refill flatrate for a whole year, as was offered to me personally by one this guild.
And a shame: he set up his shop on a state owned battelship !
Therefore I hope you might understand better our intention on delivering TRUE and FREE information for the loyal citizens of the four colonies.

Not long ago Gibbon (Gizmo studios), a seasoned FL modder, told how he was asked for "the best ship" in one of his mods. After his futile efforts to explain,
that there is no "best ship", that every ship has its to's and fro's, he resignated and settled on just saying "Eagle".
As you will see on following "issues" (Stay tuned for further issues, folks ! Soon to see on THIS PLACE !), there ARE diferences on handling,
surprisingly on some of the "older", rarly seen and used ship of the Crossfire universe. Part of my intention for this here, is to .... well, "advertise" them a bit,
make people looking for and trying them. To be honest: atm most people are running for the Cayman, as word goes, that its should be the best.
Do you remember the release of CF 1.8, when everybody was running for the T-REX ? How much upset there was on the forum, when one clan HIRED the
only system, this ship was to get ?
And as a side note:
