Only way I could think of (instead of reinstallation) : edit/change/tweak/mod some files as well as .ini files in the DATA Folder in your Freelancer now Crossfire installation.

But ... pls don't ask me which ones, I really don't know. (never took a deeper look into this only that it's NOT easy editing )

And ... even though it would only have an effect the chars appearancce in SP/aka what you see on YOUR screen without effects to MP,
you shouldn't do this (modding the mod, remember the 'legal disclaimer' during installation ? )

1st idea : use a download manager (but probably you do this already)

2nd idea : security. Dunno about your security suite in detail, but maybe you can set your Firewall to exclude swat-portal.om from any attention of it or completly deactivate any AV, Firewall, windows build-in- stuff as well.

For installation there might also be some security issues . You might have a look into these :

@Martind Forlon ... well Norton's not too bad as a security suite ... once you figured, how to convince it to do what you want, ... even if you have it as a 3rd party give-away and no customer support, like me

If I remember correctly from an other thread this error is memory read/write problem.

Have you removed the write protection from the Freelancer intsllation foldersS and some of the .exe files?

Often just disabling the AV/Firewall is not enough. Dunno what you gave permissions to work in your security-suite, but try to exclude all the Freelancer folders and .exe (esp. Freelancer.exe and LauncherUpdater.exe) and from any kind of attention of it.
Oh, and don't forget to set the Windows UAC (User Account Control) properly.

If you don't see it yet, maybe a look or two into this

That's completly normal. These "updates" are mostly changes that have been made after 1st release and the launcher ... just doesn't look if they are already changed ^^.

What comes with these changes is also a cchange of the economy aka what is where sold and bought for whicch prize (changes every day). So, if you came across a VERY interesting trade and wanna exploit it a bit more in SP => you don't have to let the launcher change it, just reject the question for updating.

It is only essential for MP.
