SSTO-Shuttle

EDIT: for the lesser educated on things related to space

    SINGLE-STAGE-TO-ORBIT-Shuttle
Would/could/should be kind of a spaceshuttle without those crappy boosters and the big fat tank that keeps exploding and malfunkting.

Could take you in just one hop off the next (long enough) highway up to the spacestation.

    That's fine with me.

All I ask for is some help/advice in how maybe other mods in general BUT the ORIGINAL in special works and can get changed/modded.

And if you say, that Crossfire is so far advanced and developed away from the original, that what you CAN advice would not work - OK !
I already got the messages: DON'T TOUCH CROSSFIRE ! . Especially not, when I'm in danger getting tarred and fetherd, if I do so.

Yeah, I've started to give serverplay a chance to convince me.

    Question:
The NPCs I encounter on multiplay, are they driven by the Client-program on my PC or by the server ?(That could probably explain their even more erratic piloting than what the NPs on SP perform, when I'm not connected to intenet.)

Hellraiser, please accept my apology !

The NPCs, esp. the light fighters on the server are not only the "usual" pain in the arse, more concerned with the performance of movements of a drunken new ballet artist on speed than with trying to kill ME ( which even more sometimes kills my nerves (hummh, ev. special tactics here ?) ), as encountered on singleplay.

They often stopp, accelerate and decelerate without any (for humans normal, for MACHINES NORMAL, only If they're broken) delay from fullstopp to thruster-max-speed. And in the same way they strafe left-right-up and down (well, felt so, since its different from SP-NPC-behavior).
Still as beatable (takes more time) but utterly annoying.

Perhaps due to some "lag" between PC and server ?
( I will try to ask OP. )

Quite the opposite, if handeled well.

Perhaps don't think of it as a WIKIpedia then kind of a LEXIpedia, where SOME information is given and shown, but not everything, especially nothing else about solutions for the quest, than general advise ("look carefully with your EYES for something", "talk to each and every bartender-lurker for rumors", etc.).
Where someone (especially newbies and POTENTIAL newbies) can browse a bit, what Crossfire has to give to them. Some screenshots, some ship-info (without buying-location, just that they ARE somewhere to get), some background stories.
And also some of the more vital information about the handling of the mod, a "What to do first..., second....", that would act like a smooth guide for every newbie into the world of Crossfire and its server.

Put this with a BIG RED SIGN on a BIG RED BUTTON already on the SWAT-portal. I'm quite sure it would have the potential of cutting down question by half, at least. (Well, the spoiler-questions are something most likely unavoidable, if their is any kind of forum for any kind of game.)
You would also have a great advertising for "bypassers". It would be a good teaser (ofc, the best strippers NEVER show all. :D )

(Something I can only agree on.)

I'm still playing "Tachyon: The Fringe", "XBTF-Goldedition" AND "Starlancer" three- to fourtimes a year, even though I might almost be able to fly some of the mission blindfolded. Perhaps BECAUSE of this and the remembrance of it. Every Spacesimulation, every simulation has its own atmosphere, creates its own, distinctive feeling, when you "live your life" there for the time playing. But maybe that's not so important to a dedicated multiplayer.

As a by now known convinced Singleplayer,
I would like to ask WHY it is so damn important for Crossfire and/or SWAT as a whole, that the server is as populated as possible ?

So important, that someone thiks it's necessary to start a thread that sounds a bit like a "recruiting apell" of the army.

What mode do you play ? Singleplayer story line, open single player or multiplayer ?

The suggestions you've made are interesting in adding atmosphere to the game.
BUT... since Crossfire is designed and optimized for MULTIPLAY, as will be told to you by others often enough, these additions would only be sensible on SINGLEPLAY, where you won't have other gamers around, who occupy you well enough, so that you don't need any other "atmosphere"boosting.
I would think, that most people around here would not see a necessity for that.

This speech thingie sounds interesting, even though there is microsofts Speech SDK freely available, but I doubt, that it's implemantable to Freelancer.
Well, perhaps, if the way how FL works the voices would be cut and replaced with the use of Speech SDK...But this would also mean writing/rewriting each and every bit of text, that takes place in FL.

Neverever, regardless what kind of software, games, applications, browsers

That's microsoft-politics right from the beginning.
