You may also try to run it under XP , by pressing Right Button(of the mouse) , compatibility/Compatibility Mode ... and Run it under XP(SP3 in most cases)

Try uninstalling the drivers and install them again.

its very strange...the game is not created for deleting the drivers...there must be conflicts with the game and the hardware or install the latest drivers.
try to turn off the option "3d sound" in freelancer.
