I am returning to Freelancer after a few years away. I have lost my original Microsoft CD. Is there anyplace I can buy a used CD or a download of the game so I can get back into the mods? Thanks.

I have flown around the Utopia system for days and cannot find the special item. I have gotten pigeye from watching. Since the waypoint setting option is gone, I have to sort of manually guide my ship. Any advice?

    Thanks.

This is not a problem of Freelancer or Crossfire. It is a problem with the Companion utility. I cannot get it to run on my Windows 10 64 bit system. It appears to install, but crashes when I run the exe file. I am trying to run it in administrator mode. The utility runs with most other mods.

    Thanks.

Here is an update. I used the info from NucNuc to force Norton to allow the files. It allowed me to install and run Crossfire 1.9.

Unfortunately, I found that my PC doesn't have the horsepower to handle the far better graphics. I have a lousy on-board Geforce 6150SE chip set and it is too feeble. No doubt CF 2.0 will be even more graphics hungry, so it looks like I need a new PC.

Always nice to have an excuse to upgrade.

Yeah, I used to pick my own intrusion and AV software from the many available free ones, but my cable TV outfit (Comcast) gives Norton as a perk, so I started using it. It's like Kristofferson said, "Nothing ain't worth nothing, but it's free."

A few days back, NucNuc wrote:

That thread is closed, so I am beginning this new one. I am having the same problem with Norton 360. I have run Crossfire 1.9 often in the past, but now Norton keeps balking at files named cfsetup17.exe and au_.exe, quarantining them and later simply refusing to restore and allow them. Of course, this only happens after the tedious job of deleting/cleaning/restoring/activating all the involved programs. I asked Norton how to allow this but they are coy; they asked for a lot of information and screenshots, including detection logs that I have no idea what are (MD5/SHA256).

My question is simple: how do I force Norton 360 to allow these files to execute? I have tried manually clicking the freelancer.exe file before executing it and allowing it, but it doesn't seem to be the problem. Sometime after the initial update of 226 files, when I click to start SP game, this cfsetup17.exe and au_.exe appear and are blocked.

I have gone through the laborious steps to try again about ten times now and am about ready to just wait for CF 2.0 ... but I bet Norton won't like it, either.

    Thanks.

Just joined. I'm likely the oldest (in human years) member here. I have been playing Freelancer since it was actually a new game and I have played all of the mods over the years. I only play SP mode. Nice to be here.
