ATI has released version 4.10 of its Catalyst
driver suite for the Radeon family of graphics cards. This new version is a major update to
the company's drivers with plenty of new features and many performance increases. ATI,
using Doom 3 performance as a benchmark, reports performance increases in all its Radeon
boards which range from 3 to 14 per cent.
New Features
Enhanced Rotation
Support for Extended Desktop View
The CATALYST Software Suite 4.10 provides support
for Rotation mode in extended desktop view. Currently rotation hotkeys are implemented for
simultaneous view but are disabled when the system is in extended desktop mode. This feature
will be supported under the Windows XP operating system and is supported on all currently
shipping ATI Desktop products.
720p and 1080i HDTV Mode Support
The CATALYST
Software Suite 4.10 introduces support for both 720p and 1080i HDTV mode for both CRTs and
DFPs. A new properties tab labeled Troubleshoot is added to the ATI Classic Control Panel
for both the FPD and Monitor properties page. The Troubleshoot tab will allow users to force
720p and 1080i modes.
CATALYST A.I.
CATALYST A.I. allows the driver to
intelligently analyze applications and textures to maximize graphics performance and enhance
stability while delivering the absolute highest visual quality

Improvement
As with most CATALYST releases performance has increased in various
situations. The following performance gains are noticed in the game
Doom3:
Performance improves 5 to 8 per cent on the ATI RADEON 9500 PRO

Performance improves approximately 5 per cent on the ATI RADEON 9600

Issues Resolved in CATALYST Display Driver Version 4.10
City of Heros:
Playing the game under Windows XP with an ATI RADEON 9700 PRO installed no longer results in
the game failing to respond.
Doom3: disabling the object buffers within the game results
in the game failing to respond
Doom3: game corruption is no longer noticed when playing
the game under Windows XP with an ATI RADEON X800 XT installed, with low or medium quality
settings and the image is no longer dark if playing the game with high quality mode
settings.
Enigmo: Playing the game under Windows XP with an ATI RADEON 7000 installed no
longer results in textures missing from objects that are displayed in the game.

X800 PRO installed
Ground Control II: Display corruption is no longer seen in the
water's reflection when playing the game under Windows XP with an ATI RADEON

Joint Operation Typhoon Rising: The game is now working

Psychotoxic: The game no longer fails to start when attempting
to launch the game under Windows XP with an ATI RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition

Psychotoxic: Attempting to start a new game under Windows XP with an ATI
RADEON 9700 PRO installed, results in the game failing to load
Spiderman2: Playing the
game under Windows XP with an ATI RADEON 7500 installed no longer results in flashing
textures and missing shadows.
Spell Force: Setting the game options to 1024x768 16bpp,
anisotropic filter 2x, texture quality high, and shadow type very high no longer results in
shadow effect corruption under Windows XP with an ATI RADEON 9200 series
installed.
Starwars: X-Wing Alliance: Display corruption is no longer seen when playing
the game under Windows XP with an ATI RADEON 9250 installed.
Wars and Warriors: Joan of
Arc: Display corruption is no longer noticed when playing the game under Windows
XP.
Playing games such as StarTrek Elite Force, Serious Sam SE, Vulpine GLMark, Call Of
Duty, and Savage no longer results in the games failing to respond when being played under
Windows XP with an ATI RADEON 9550 or 9600 series installed.
Installing the ATI Display
Driver no longer results in display corruption being seen on the top portion of the HDTV
display when an ATI RADEON X800 is installed.
Installing the ATI display driver under
Windows XP with an ATI RADEON X800 SE no longer results in display corruption appearing on
the HDTV connected to the adapter after the reboot.
The display adapter information is
now reported correctly for the ATI RADEON X800 series.
Attempting to play a Java based
game or visit a Java based website no longer results in display corruption under Windows XP
when either an ATI RADEON 9800 SE or RADEON X800 XT Platinum card is installed and AA is
enabled
Dragging the MS Media Player over to the secondary monitor no longer results in
overlay not being available, if SURROUNDVIEW is enabled
