Here's the short story I never finished, with notes, timeline and general outline; if anyone feels inspired to nicely round this up in a story, you're more than welcome.
Notes:
- planets: Trestang (gas giant, full of fuel), Devra (homeworld, with the pylons), Lyr (distant light blue world, life possible in areas without high temperature difference), Chrorhon (no atmosphere, full of resources), Liwold (no atmosphere, ice, minerals?), Dakhar (the destroyed one)
- years and timeline is adaptable
(The following events were reconstructed from archaeological finds, historical database research, event reconstructions, technology reverse-engineering and Dom’Kavash historical matrix, accessible at Mirtrrak Battle Station.)
Approximately 7 million years ago, Dervon system was a thriving, well populated home system for an advanced race of intelligent beings, which we named the Ancients (since the records and archaeological data suggests their culture evolved before that of the previously oldest known alien race, the Dom’Kavash).
The Ancients evolved on a lush, green world of Devra. Covered in tropical rainforests and fertile plains, the planet teemed with life. Their cultural evolution before they started exploring their system lasted for about 13.000 years, and once they ventured out into space, they quickly established orbital bases to serve as staging grounds for colonization of nearby planets. Lyr was the first one to have a fully operational colony in it’s temperate zones; Trestang’s orbital stations provided ample supplies of resources needed to construct massive orbiting pylons around Devra, used as staging grounds for the industry and military.
Timeline
Phase 1:
- Dervon had an extra planet in the center of today's asteroid field;
- construction of experimental reactor on one of the pylon-bases orbitting that planet in Dervon, second reactor is being built in the huge drone manufacturing carrier;
- drone ship equipped with FTL reactor sent into orbit of the extra planet;
- reactor fires, drone ship explodes; wormhole is pulled into the center of the planet (due to gravitic pull), exploding the planet (forming the asteroid field); shards of exploded planet rain hell on Ancient colonies in system;
- other end of the wormhole opens up inside a low density planet in Utopia; wormhole drills through the planet's softer core parts, removing it; denser parts of the planet (heavy metal veins) collapse into themselves, hardening and forming today's jagged megaasteroid in Utopia;
- drone carrier's reactor is finished but never s
Phase 2:
- unmanned drones are dispatched, and scan through Utopia's planets, finding evidence of life on those planets, evolved, sentient and technologically advanced;
- drones detect a stabile Omega 41 jumphole, proceed to scan beyond it; at the time, O41 is still intact, though the local sun is unstable; drones move on, and spread through the Omega systems;
- drones are detected by the DK sensor stations and are classified as a threat due to their strong weapons;
- additional Nomads are spawned and are positioned (in cloak) throughout Omegas and Utopia;
- Nomads decloak and begin systematic destruction of all Ancient drones detected in Omegas;
- large armadas of Nomads ships decloak in Utopia and begin invading the Dervon;
- still crippled by the cataclysm in their own system, Ancients provide moderate resistance in the beginning, but since they're unable to reinforce as quickly as Nomads, they are overrun;
- Nomads destroy Ancients fleets and begin planetary bombardment;
Phase 3:
- facing total annihilation, an enclave of scientists onboard the drone manufacturing carrier activate the second prototype reactor; carrier disappears, not to be seen again for thousands of years, until humans rediscover Dervon (that's that unselectable giant Ancient ship that sometimes looks like a planet in Dervon, and it also explains why there are Drones there now).
