While trading I have had a pirate come to me for tax. During our conversation they told me that I should pay as I am rank x which means I have at least $y million. I am wondering on what the communities feelings are on players in RP situations using abstract game terms. Personally I think it sucks and is very poor RP.

You are missing the point. Rank is part of the game mechanics. Yes you need to know it for setting appropriate fines/taxes. I am also aware that pirates can blow me out of space without warning My point is that I do not think that it has any place in a RP situation. You are playing a role as a character in the CF universe.
