I'm pleasantly surprised by DS1. Found it in a bargain bin up here where i live and after patching it with the latest 1.3 patch, it runs very smoothly. Reminds me of Freelancer in a way, some interesting features like the ability to go inside asteroids (gets tedious after a while) but a nice touch nonetheless. The trading side of things can largely be ignored which is sad as it has a dynamic economy but if you do missions only you'll have more than enough cash. A bit more variety in that depart…

Yes, i have to agree with that. I've played a few story driven ones before, namely Tachyon the Fringe, Freelancer (although different experience in mp), Wing Commander series, now DS1 and i downloaded Evochron Renegades the other day to try out as well as that seems to have had some good press as well. I don't mind story driven games as long as they don't take over. It has to be an area in the game that you can leave and go do something else then come back to if you feel like it.
