Just a thought.... What about a launchable sensor bouy? Something that a player could launch that would feed data to the contacts list and/or map for ships within a 5k diameter or so from the bouy for a set period of time, say 180 seconds or so, before self-destructing. Could maybe be a class of missile or mine?
