Thus, you might have lagged alot and when you go through a gate, you actually got through space real fast, it's not really instantaneous. He exited the jupiter gate, so it was an in-system jump. Besides, it also counts for jumping to another system. Haven't you ever seen stuff fly by hella-fast when coming out of a gate? Anyway, that is also why you are so far out of the map if the server crashes when you're in a jumphole or something like that.
