The Inner Core trip is not about DK space, it's about the Conquered Territory and hunting for alien guns. Though it's hard to find someone to be a hunting partner for actually fighting the Great Doms' fighters/gunboats, but there's an option to use a battleship and hunt the aliens' battlegroups solo.
