And as long as your position is not changed and you are destroyed you are warped back to the last station where you docked.You might get killed by NPCs if you just logout in space. We have a timer that defines how long you need to finally logout - till this time elapses you might get killed. So any of that has probably happened to you.

No, but you should be aware that it might happen. If you want to make sure your char is saved, try to dock somewhere. Saving your char in space is not reliable.
