sounds like the "pittsburgh-bug" where players got beamed to pl. pittsburgh for some unknown reason and by attempting to leave they got kicked... i think there was only a server-restart to solve this bug - i think it was never really resolved why this happens - but commodity-bug could also be a possibility.
