welcome ! trading to make a lot of money first is the easiest way to start with. Then you can buy a good fighter with some decent equipment. NPCs are so well balanced now that with comparable equipment (Liberty defender to take down Rogue Bloodhound) it will be a long and close fight... better get a very good fighter instead of going up the steps slowly hunting pods or doing missions. But to buy that good fighter, you need money, hence trading first !
